Four-time Olympic medallist Tom Daley, 30, will contest his fifth Olympics after ending his long wait for gold at Tokyo 2020 in the men's 10m synchro.

“I am extremely proud. Being able to be flagbearer at the opening ceremony is a dream come true," Daley told BBC Sport.

Daley is set to become the first British diver to compete in five Games, having come out of retirement to compete in Tokyo three years ago.

An Olympian at the age of just 14 at Beijing 2008, Daley won gold alongside Matty Lee in Tokyo to add to three bronze medals he has achieved in individual and synchronised 10m events.

In Paris, he will seek to defend his title alongside team-mate Noah Williams.

“This Olympics is something I would consider to be a bonus Olympics," said Daley, whose son, Robbie, convinced him to return.

"This Olympics has been about enjoying it, embracing every moment and taking everything in as much as I can. To be flagbearer too is just the icing on the cake."

  5. GB Sevens lacks 'funding' and 'responsibility' - Fergussonpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 24 July

The rugby sevens has been steering us through day -2 of the 2024 Paris Olympics but you might be wondering why Team GB won't be represented by a men's team?

Well, men's captain Robbie Fergusson believes the Great Britain Sevens programme lacks funding with "no one wanting to take responsibility" from the home nations unions.

The men's team failed for the first time to qualify the Olympic Games after losing 14-5 to South Africa in the repechage final in Monaco last month, with only the women's team set to compete at Paris 2024.

Last season the decision was made by England, Scotland and Wales to join forces and compete solely as GB on the World Rugby Sevens Series because of sevens being an Olympic sport.

"It has been a slow process to try and get it off the ground, pulling three union resources together you will have a fully funded programme - if I am honest it has been the opposite," Fergusson told BBC Sport.

"There has been less funding with nobody wanting to take responsibility for the programme. The first year was a real struggle.

"We are still trying to build our identity as GB Sevens whilst still being part of the three unions. There are a lot of unions involved in that and nobody is really clear what that is or what that should look like.

"That is a big problem and something we need to build on going forward."

BBC Sport contacted the RFU, SRU and WRU who all declined to comment.

The atmosphere has quietened at the Stade de France since the extended break between the first lot of pool matches and the second.

Perhaps the crowd are exhausted after the rave which went on during the lack of rugby.

Two hipsters were DJing - they look a bit like Justice if you're familiar - with loads of 'revelling' fans shown on the big screen.

They must have been invited to party like they're in Berghain. Nobody goes to a sporting event and does that, surely.

All for it, though. It's banging.

It was great to speak to Andy Murray earlier among the table tennis tables, coffee cups and arm chairs of one of the Team GB buildings earlier.

The Scot was typically matter-of-fact as he spoke about his decision to retire after these Games.

He spoke well about that and said after his career is over he wants to concentrate on getting his golf handicap down. He says his injuries mean he hasn’t played for five years. Back then he played off five…

Former Barcelona legend Javier Mascherano is the manager of the Argentina Olympic team and is passing on some final instructions to his players before we resume.

We are in chartered territory here...

We already knew Argentina's goal had been ruled out by VAR due to offside but we've just had to go through the theatre of it in real-time.

The referee has just done the international signal for VAR, walked over to check the screen and then disallowed the goal officially.

Both teams already knew it would not stand but the Morocco players started to celebrate as if it was news to them!

We're now back under way for what should be a final three minutes.

Some breaking news from Team GB, who have confirmed that Yorkshire’s Becky Moody, riding Jagerbomb, will now be the third team member of the equestrian dressage team following the withdrawal of Charlotte Dujardin. The alternate combination has been named as Andrew Gould and Indigro and they will travel to Versailles with the squad.

Dujardin, Britain's joint-most decorated female Olympian, has been provisionally suspended by equestrian's governing body the FEI.

The dressage star had already pulled out of Paris 2024 after a video emerged which she said showed her "making an error of judgement".

The footage shows Dujardin hitting a horse with a long equestrian whip.

So, there's a bit of confusion as to whether the match between Argentina and Morocco has actually concluded or whether the game is currently suspended.

It has been over an hour since the fixture concluded in dramatic and controversial circumstances at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in St-Etienne.

Morocco led 2-1 and were on track for an upset as the game ticked into the 16th minute of injury-time when Boca Juniors midfielder Cristian Medina headed in after the ball had twice come back off the crossbar.

That late goal sparked an angry reaction from some Morocco supporters, who threw bottles and flares onto the field with others invading the pitch.

We understand that the referee postponed the game three minutes before full-time and they are now going to resume the match in an empty stadium.
