Track cycling - men's team sprint

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

I think Team GB performed as well as they could have done. It was a really impressive performance from all three riders.

The unfortunate reality is they are against the greatest team of all time with probably the greatest sprinter of all time, Harrie Lavreysen from the Netherlands.

You've got to get ahead of the Dutch if you want to beat them and unfortunately based on last night's performances anyway, they are looking untouchable.

Realistically we are looking at a silver medal at best here, but it's sport, anything can happen at any time.

They need to get through this next round against Australia. It's going to be tight against them, very different approaches. The Australians went out really fast at the start and tailed off at the end whereas GB were very consistent across all three laps.

To come here in these circumstances and get a bronze medal is so, so impressive from Sky Brown. The very day before she was due to come out here to Paris she fell in training and dislocated her shoulder. It was touch and go whether she would compete at all.

She came here, showed up and has made it back to back bronze medals.

Great Britain will get to race for a medal but they will be disappointed with that.

Getting off the blocks wasn't a problem, technique wasn't a problem, just engine power.

Nobody wants to say you are missing Katie Archibald, that could be the difference here.

You ride with what you've got, they were technically good.

Next up it's the men's team sprint first round. GB face Germany in heat three, but first up it's Japan v France.

If there’s one thing I’ve been blown away by at these Games, it’s how much Olympic fever has hit France. The French fans are loving it.

Here at the velodrome, it’s deafening whenever French riders are on the track, ‘Allez les Bleus’ following them around the bends.

Before today’s action got under way, I saw a member of the French backroom team handing these huge cardboard cutouts of the riders’ faces to their families in the crowd. They’ve been bobbing up and down all over.

USA started really positively but Germany looked much better as we were approaching half time. Neither side has had that killer final pass or bit of quality.

It has been a tight tie this one and we thought it might be between two such experienced sides.

Germany won Olympic gold in Tokyo but that wasn't how they would have hoped to start their title defence, ending up in fifth.

It's better news for GB though. They'll avoid New Zealand in the next round and take on the United States instead.

The Americans went just shy of 1.5 seconds quicker in qualifying.

Track Cycling - women's team pursuit

GB come third in the women's team pursuit qualifying, which means they are still in medal contention and will race the United States in what is effectively a semi-final on Wednesday afternoon. The other tie will be between New Zealand and Italy with the two winners racing each other for the golds.

Germany, the reigning champions and world record holders, have missed out on a medal as they are down in fifth in qualifying, while Ireland come ninth.

It is the first time this team have worked together so they will still be learning a lot about each other and how best to do things. It is all about figuring out different race strategies.

GB go into third as it stands with one team to come.

If the Germans go faster than them, they'll slip down into fourth and that means they will face whoever finishes top of the standings.

At the moment, that's New Zealand, whose qualifying time was more than two seconds quicker.

Team GB's John Gimson and Anna Burnet qualified for Wednesday's medal race in the mixed multihull after closing the regular race programme in third position.

The pair recorded finishes of fifth, first and third in Tuesday's races and now stand a good chance of securing an Olympic medal.

Vita Heathcote and Chris Grube missed out on the medal race in the mixed dinghy in heart-breaking fashion. The pair saw the final two races of their programme cancelled because of the local conditions, leaving them stranded in eleventh in the standings - one place short of the ten-boat medal race.

Meanwhile Team GB's Micky Beckett will have to endure another nervous night before he can get a shot at the podium, with the medal race in the men's dinghy postponed until tomorrow.

GB's Connor Bainbridge sits in eighth in the men's kite, having finishing 12th and 11th, his worst two race results thus far.

Teammate Eleanor Aldridge didn't start in the one women's kite race to take place, but still sits second in the rankings.
