The team just got the most out of themselves there.

It is the minimum standard for going for gold here and they have produced it twice.

The Netherlands - expected to be Team GB's opponents in the gold medal final - are up against Canada in the final heat.

Great time for Great Britain. That is a huge improvement and far above all of the teams that have gone before. Great to see that they managed to improve on the first ride and that they are into the final.

What a ride from Team GB - Jack Carlin, in particular, on the final leg.

A time of 41.819 seconds is enough to beat Germany and guarantee a place in the gold-silver final later this evening.

That record was previously held by Sir Jason Kenny and Sir Chris Hoy.

With Team GB being relatively new to this level of performance, this is the first Olympics for two of the team, they may have had some nerves stepping out on the track.

Maybe today they will be able to deliver a better performance. The Netherlands showed their cards, we saw what they had to offer. I am still hopeful that the Brits may be able to squeeze a little bit more out in this race.

Great Britain's Jack Carlin is quietly relishing competing at these Olympics.

Tokyo was his first Games and he came away with silver and bronze in the team sprint and individual sprint, respectively.

But, with no crowds, family, or friends there in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it did not have the feel of the Olympics.

This time, it's the full-fat version.

The Paisley rider has even got the iconic rings tattooed on to his right bicep. Just don't ask him how he got it.

"It was a massive factor in me wanting to continue after Tokyo, to actually experience the Olympic Games and having friends and family there," he told BBC Scotland earlier this summer.

Australia v China up next...

It goes to Australia in a time of 42.336 seconds - that's quicker than France and puts them in a strong position for that gold-silver final later.

The second of the day's semi-finals in the men's hockey tournament is under way, with India and Germany facing off.

This pair contested the bronze medal match in Tokyo, with Germany taking a 5-4 win.

The winners today will face the Netherlands in Thursday's final, after they beat Spain 4-0 earlier today.
