Kellie has started to move her feet faster meaning Yang is not as fast in this second round as she appeared in the first.

She is not going to throw this away. She is in front and she will stay in front.

If Harrington can beat Ferreira and Yang to win this Olympic gold then she will by far have deserved it. Two of the best that are around in this division, Kellie is very much part of the trio.

I am surprised just how fast Yang is. She is extremely fast on her feet and her hands, when she lets them go, are very fast.

What Kellie [Harrington] has already done is she is adjusting her punches. She is already getting that step closer before she throws out her hands.

This place has just exploded. Roland Garros is bouncing.

The first Irish athlete to defend their Olympic title was hammer thrower Pat O'Callaghan in 1928 and 1932.

Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy managed to achieve that feat in the men's lightweight double sculls a few days ago, but that's where the list ends.

Can Harrington add to that this evening?

Far too little, too late for the world champions, despite two late goals and 18 minutes of second-half stoppage time.

This Brazil side without suspended superstar Marta rose to the occasion and left everything out there on the pitch in Marseille.

Spain will not be contesting the gold medal match, it is the bronze medal match v Germany for them. It will be Brazil against Emma Hayes' USA for gold.

Boxing - women's 60kg gold medal final: Yang Wenlu v Kellie Harrington

    Neil Loughran
Boxing correspondent for the Irish News

Kellie Harrington has been a little bit of a late burner in the Irish context and has been a bit forgotten outside of Ireland because she has been in Katie Taylor's slipstream for the guts of a decade.

Kellie had to box at a higher weight level because Katy had 60kg nailed down as the best boxer we have ever seen. So Kellie was 30 years old by the time she won gold in Tokyo, she is 34 years old now.

It makes you wonder what she might have achieved had that roadblock not been there.

"Le victoire appartient au plus opiniatre"

That's the French message inscribed on one side of the Court Philippe-Chatrier.

On the other side, the English translation reads "Victory belongs to the most tenacious".

They certainly don't come any more tenacious than Ireland's Kellie Harrington, who is going for back-to-back Olympic golds.

China's Wenlu Yang defeated Harrington way back in 2016 in the World Championship final.

Is this her time for revenge?
