These are clean shots that Lewis is scoring with. Verde is having some success too but I think Lewis might be blocking some of those shots. It is another tight round between the pair. These two here have fought four or five times and every single round has been incredibly close.

Britain's Lewis Richardson, who hails from Colchester, Essex, won his first two bouts in this competition 3-2 on split decisions and this is another fight tough to call.

He gets the first-round verdict on two of the judges' cards, but three of them say Mexican Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez won the opener.

    Work for Richardson to do.

These photo finishes are becoming a trend at Paris 2024 and they are also very helpful!

You can see gold medallist Gabby Thomas well clear of the field and Julien Alfred comfortable enough in second.

Then it's tight between three runners in the middle of the image above.

Of that trio, Brittany Brown is at the bottom with her chest just hitting that red line before Dina Asher-Smith at the top and Daryll Neita in the middle.

    Colin Jackson
Two-time world 110m hurdles champion on BBC TV

Gabby Thomas has been very, very strong in the 200m, won all the big races that were necessary and arrived at the Olympic Games with the pressure and the target on her back knowing that there are quality 200m runners around her.

Of course the 100m champion that she had to take on as well. It was a really nice, controlled and I would say nailed on perfect race for her.

There's one Mexican fan right in front of me who keeps standing up to wave his flag and that's before Richardson's opponent Marco Verde Alvarez has even emerged.

You might have to bear with me here.

Can Richardson upgrade his medal?published at 20:47 British Summer Time 6 August

Boxing - men's 71kg: Lewis Richardson (GB) v Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez (Mex)

It was a disastrous start to the Olympics for the British team with five of their six boxers losing in the opening round. But there could still be a gold end to the Games.

In the incredible setting of Roland Garros, which has already staged the tennis events, Britain's Lewis Richardson is already guaranteed a bronze medal but will be looking to upgrade that tonight and qualify for the gold medal bout.

Mexico's Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez stands in Richardson's way and the winner will take on Uzbekistan's Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev, who has just beaten American Omari Jones 3-2 on a split decision.

    Allison Curbishley

Dina Asher-Smith will look at those times, she'll look at the way she ran in and think, was that an opportunity missed?

If you would have told her that a bronze medal would have only needed 22.20 she'd have absolutely thought 'I'm on the podium.' Daryll Neita would have thought the same.

Coming into the home straight it was a real opportunity but they both just tied up in the end.

I think you would have to say it is between Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred.

As an Olympic champion in the 100m, that makes her very dangerous and certainly a threat. She ran a huge personal best to win the 100m.

I don't see Gabby Thomas giving this away or making any mistakes but if Julien Alfred has the race of her life, she could win it.

Who is Dina Asher-Smith?published at 20:38 British Summer Time 6 August

Dina Asher-Smith was left bitterly disappointed after missing out on the 100m final but she will race for a 200m medal after running 22.31 to cross the line behind American Gabby Thomas in her semi-final.

It's the 200m where Asher-Smith really comes alive.

Having come a long way from working as a bag carrier at London 2012, Asher-Smith earned bronze at the 2022 world championships, running under 22 seconds for just the third time in her career.

Her personal best of 21.88 seconds came in 2019, coming closest in Eugene three years later.

She added a European silver in August 2022 after clocking 22.43 seconds and was crowned British champion at the end of June, pipping compatriot Daryll Neita to the title.

“Every single day I have been thinking about the Olympics, more so than anything else,” she says. “I’m just really excited to get out there and race.”
