In terms of how Kellie Harrington is viewed at home in the inner city of Dublin, she is a hero. She is absolutely idolised.

You only have to look at the footage when she came home from Tokyo three years ago - a double decker bus driving through her area Portland Row, and the streets were lined with supporters.

Court Philippe Chatrier is pretty full for this boxing now. I was here for the tennis the other day and can't quite get used to not being able to see red clay.

I wonder what Wimbledon would have to say if they suggested plonking a boxing ring on Centre Court.

Next up here? Imane Khelif v Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng for a place in the Olympic final.

'Eat some cake and hopefully celebrate'published at 21:34 British Summer Time 6 August

Boxing - men's 71kg: Lewis Richardson (GB) v Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez (Mex)

More from Team GB's Lewis Richardson after winning bronze in the boxing: "It's been an amazing experience, I'm so grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way.

"It's been an amazing journey, I have been boxing for 12, 13 years and the amount of people and support I have had throughout those years has been so influential in me achieving what I have achieved tonight, creating history for myself, my family and my city.

"Even talking now brings pride but I'm a winner and it obviously is disappointing not to be able to box for the gold on Friday."

On taking the bronze medal home to Colchester: "I don't know, we will soon find out next week! I need to sort of lick my wounds for the moment, go back to the village tonight and probably drown my sorrows. I've been dieting like crazy to make the weight. The weight is a challenge for me.

"Drown my sorrows and eat some cake and just look back and hopefully celebrate. Not dwell on the loss but celebrate the win because I have had two fantastic wins out here. Support from Great Britain has been amazing. I'm proud but also disappointed."

Boxing - men's 71kg: Lewis Richardson (GB) v Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez (Mex)

Team GB's Lewis Richardson speaking after winning bronze in the boxing: "It's devastating, it's raw. I've stepped out the ring moments ago so emotions are very high. Obviously disappointed to miss out on the final and box for a gold on Friday night.

"Initial disappointment but I hope to look back and be really proud of what I have achieved because I have created history within my city, Colchester. I'm the only British boxer to medal at these Games so hopefully I will look back with pride and happiness in the future."

On whether the fight went to plan: "It's hard to say at this moment I've just stepped out the ring, I'll have to go back and analyse it but it was close, it was a 3-2 split decision.

"Two of the judges went for me, three went against me, every round was competitive and close and that's amateur boxing. It's just a flip of the coin sometimes and in this case it didn't go my way."

I have to say that the IOC running boxing are not much of an improvement over the IBA. Think judges were too respectful of higher seed’s ranking rather than paying attention what he did in round three. Very poor judging.

    Callum

Boxing judging is subjective but there have been too many strange decisions over the years at the Olympics. If it is dropped from LA in 2028 then it only has itself to blame.

    Steve Bunce
Boxing expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is not god given. You do not arrive to the games and suddenly pick up four, five and six medals.

2,115 contests to get the 249 boxers here to the Olympics. Over 2,00 boxers tried to get here over seven international tournaments, over a 13-month-long process.

This is one of the hardest sports to qualify for and once you get here it is savage, it is brutal, it is lethal. And sometimes it is heartbreaking.

    Athletics - men's 1500m final

More from Team GB's Josh Kerr speaking to BBC TV after winning a silver medal in the men's 1500m final: "I knew we had to weather a storm early. Keep clam and make sure that we were staying as emotionally locked in as we could. At 600m to go, I felt like I had a lot left. Then coming off that last bend, I got pushed off a little bit and I got past him [Jakob Ingebrigtsen] but there is a lot of running left at that point.

"It is so hard to keep track of everything that is going on in the last 100m or so. The result is what the result is but I'm super proud of the way I executed today."

On the next Olympic Games being in Los Angeles, where he lives: "That would be amazing [to win gold there] but I'm secure in myself.

"I medal every time I come to these Championships bar one in the last four years. I've been consistent at this level. I will get the medal I want when it comes to it at the end of my career.

"Today wasn't that day but it's a heck of a step in the right direction."

Lin Yu-ting (left) and Imane Khelif are guaranteed at least bronze medals at Paris 2024

Boxing at Paris 2024 has been overshadowed by a row about the eligibility of two fighters in the women's competition.

Algeria's Imane Khelif (who fights later on tonight with a chance of getting into the gold-medal bout) and Taiwanese fighter Lin Yu-ting are guaranteed at least bronze medals. But last year they were disqualified from the World Championships.

The body that oversaw that 2023 event is the International Boxing Association (IBA), and it says both fighters failed gender eligibility tests. On Monday the IBA held a news conference which it had said would provide a "detailed explanation of the reasons for the disqualification".

However the chaotic media event left more questions than answers.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has cast doubt on the reliability of the tests and suggested what is happening is a "sometimes politically motivated cultural war".

In June 2023, the IOC stripped the IBA of its status as the sport's amateur world governing body over concerns over how it was run.
