They're both such strong characters. They were mind-playing with each other, they knew what they needed to do to get the edge over each other and Caden was fantastic.

    Brazil 0-0 United States - women's gold-medal match

This is a tale today with two standout themes.

The first is former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes trying to lead the United States to Olympic gold, just three months after taking over to turn the fortunes of this footballing powerhouse around.

Hayes was her usual jovial self as she pulled a face at the camera on arrival at the Parc des Princes - then again when she posed for a selfie on the pitch.

The second is Brazil superstar Marta attempting to land the biggest international honour of career before retirement.

Marta, one of most iconic stars ever and a six-time Fifa player of the year, starts on the bench.

Wandering around Paris over the past few weeks, you have never been far from seeing Americans or Brazilians.

Tonnes of both nationalities at the Games.

So it is not surprising to see the distinctive blue-globed bandeira do Brasil battling it out with Stars and Stripes all over the south-west Parisian district where the Parc des Princes is.

The metro was packed with football shirts, flags draped over shoulders and funky fashion jackets.

A carnival atmosphere (forgive the cliche) awaits...
