The track team has had four travelling reserves here in Paris - Stewart, Joe Truman (men's sprint), Meg Barker (women's endurance) and Lowri Thomas (women's sprint). They have all been in and around the velodrome all week.

Thomas has often had a camera in her hand, taking some really lovely behind-the-scenes photos that British Cycling have been sharing on their social media channels. Check them out, external.

Sato has gone early with two laps still left. Is that going to be the right call?

With the tactics, length he [Jack Carlin] has, three lap effort he's been training for, this is his best chance. He is very tactically astute.

It requires a bit of physical. Shoulders and bumping and barging. I think this is his best chance.

Not sure how this is still goalless to be honest.

Ludmila straying offside by a boot is part of the reason, as have a couple of smart saves from US keeper Alyssa Naeher.

The Americans have at gone at it, too, with Mallory Swanson unable to take their best opportunity.

Emma Hayes looks relaxed. She walks off with her hands in her pockets as she rehearses the half-time tactical advice in her mind.

They have witnessed a goalless, but entertaining first 45 minutes in the women's football final. The half time whistle has just blown with the score at 0-0.

USA keeper Alyssa Naeher ensured the scores stayed level in stoppage time with a brilliant diving stop to deny Gabi Portilho's well-struck effort from 10 yards.

Spain won their first gold medal in Olympic women's water polo by edging out Australia 11-9 in the Paris 2024 final.

Victory for Spain avenged final defeats at London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 where they lost to the USA both times.

Australia, inaugural champions at Sydney 2000, missed out on a first gold in 24 years but secured their first medal since bronze in London.

The USA failed to medal in women's water polo for the first time at the Olympics, falling to a thrilling 11-10 defeat by the Netherlands in the bronze-medal match.

Dutchwoman Sabrina van der Sloot scored the winning goal with less than a second on the clock.
