Khalokov closing in on gold medalpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 10 August

    Boxing - men's 57kg category final

Munarbek Seiitbek Uulu has elected to come out with a different approach for round two. He's being less reckless and opting to stay out of range - he was getting picked off when he went chasing after Abdumalik Khalokov in round one.

It's risky but it might just be his best hope of taking this second round.

Khalokov is just so elusive, though, and with a round in the bag he's happy to skip from side-to-side.

A tighter round, how will the judges score it?

Ah. It's another clean sweep in favour of Khalokov.

Uulu needs a stoppage in the third and final round. We could be set for fireworks.

When he goes forward, when he attacks he scores. Amazing to watch honestly.

Even though he is not doing much, he is doing all the things in the right moment at the place.

A slight moment of concern for Caden Cunningham, who gets his toe caught on his opponent's top. They are broken up; a bad twist there could have been bad news.

He is ok, and continues in a circumspect opening round with no points scored for the first minute.

But then Salimi lands a head shot! All to do for Cunningham...

That is an Olympic first round for the boy! If he wins this round, there is no need for third.

He will then go home with that glorious gold.

Oh hello! Things have got interesting again.

France rally at the start of the second quarter to turn a five-point deficit into a lead.

Bilal Coulibaly dunks to the sound of raucous French cheers and the immediate call of an American timeout.

The locals belt out you know what. A chant starting with 'Allez...'

Arian Salimi looks to have caught Cunningham's head with his toe - but that is not ruled enough for three points! That means Iran don't get the three points, and lose their review card.

Cunningham leads, but goes looking for more points. He has to be careful, Salimi is taller and can catch the Brit from range.

But Cunningham is fighting smart, his forward movement is forcing Salimi off balance. The Iranian gives away two points for going to ground.

It means Cunningham takes the round 6-3! If he wins one of the remaining two rounds, he is Olympic champion.

    Boxing - men's 57kg category final

It's always a joy watching these lighter weight classes.

The movement, the speed and the precision is something to behold.

Abdumalik Khalokov certainly isn't feeling the pressure of being a heavy favourite - if anything he's thriving in the spotlight.

He slips a shot, drops his hands, does the Ali shuffle and takes the first round unanimously.

It's quickly on to the second of four gold medal bouts at Roland Garros tonight.

Up next is Uzbekistan's Abdumalik Khalokov against Munarbek Seitbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan.

Khalokov is the number one seed and came into Paris 2024 as the gold medal favourite - can he live up to that billing or can Uulu cause an upset?

Caden Cunningham is ranked fourth in this competition. Opponent Arian Salimi of Iran is the 10th seed. Cunningham starts as favourite - but taekwondo is one of the most unpredictable sports at these Games.

Cunningham lands the first score of the match, to the trunk of Salimi. But the Iranian responds with a brilliant head shot!

The Brit retakes the lead with another body blow, but now the Iranians want a review of a head shot they feel was missed...

Lutalo Muhammad has just given Becky McGowan a giant cuddle and some words of wisdom.

Muhammad had his own agonising moment at London 2012, coming within seconds of gold before ultimately having to settle for silver.

I wonder if he'll have passed on any advice to Caden Cunningham, who has just been introduced to the crowd here at Grand Palais.

The high-octane atmosphere continues on the court. The stars have come out to play.

Victor Wembanyama starts like a steam train as France attack from the whistle, bagging seven points early in a thriller of a first quarter.

But the American superstars see it and raise it.

LeBron James does what LeBron James does. Just a behind-the-back assist which Devin Booker puts away being the highlight.

That's why the GOAT contender is allowed to wear gold kicks.

The latter stage of the quarter sees the US open up thanks to a pair of three-pointers from Anthony Edwards.

Great Britain have never had an Olympic men's taekwondo champion.

Lutalo Muhammad - here tonight on media duties - and Bradly Sinden both came close in 2012 and 2021.

    Agonising for Rebecca McGowan.

She thought she'd got her nose in front with a head kick during that but she'd just stepped outside of the main lines.

She sinks to her haunches and stares at the floor before throwing herself onto her back and covering her face. Her coach pulls her up and gives her a giant hug.

So close. She regains her composure and darts over to give Turkey's Nafia Kus Aydin a hug.
