The Spaniards are out in force at Roland Garros and, for once, it's not for Rafael Nadal.

The great man has won 14 French Open titles on court Philippe Chatrier but tonight is the arena's last night as an Olympic boxing arena and Spain's Ayoub Ghadfa is going for gold.

He's in the superheavyweight final (21:51 BST) and has a huge task against Uzbek defending champion Bakhodir Jalolov.

This group of Spain supporters think fate may be on Ghadfa's side.

"This is Spain's house," one tells me. He even made a cheeky dig about the Euros final...

    Women's heptathlon - silver medal

    BBC Sport

Katarina Thompson-Thompson talks about that 800m and her plans to celebrate with her family with BBC Sport:

"It was hard. You think about all the different scenarios and all the different ways to run it and that last year in Budapest I had to run out of my skin to be able to medal.

"I had this practice in Budapest, and I knew Anna Hall was going to go out fast, so I know I had to cling to her as best I could and I’m so happy came away with another PB.

"2m 05s was an ambition of mine for many years and I achieved that last year so to dip under that this year – I left it all on the track and I literally have no regrets of how I ran that."

What has it been like to share these emotions with friends and family:

"I still haven’t yet. I’ve been quite overwhelmed with messages online so I need a moment to really go through them.

"Hopefully my family can come here later and we can celebrate and live in the moment.

Any message for anyone at home about perseverance, grit and determination: "I feel like if you’re in a rut or if you’re injured, know that it is a moment, nothing lasts for ever and with the right people around you and the right sort of plan, anything can change in a very short space of time."

When Muir made the move she was absolutely charging them all down. Heartbreak listening to that. The emotion she must be going to.

She’s just finished fifth, watched someone take her British record, and get a bronze medal. That’s hard, that’s really tough.

    But so articulate and gracious.

    Women's 1500m final

Finally from Laura Muir: “Me and Faith Kipyegon have been in global finals together since 2015, I've known her very well - she’s amazing.

"Not just for our event but for the sport as well it's fantastic to see and Jess [Hull] too won her first medal, I'm really close with her and obviously Georgia [Bell] as well doing absolutely brilliantly.

“It's a very nice podium - sad I'm not on it but I'm very happy with the podium they're all lovely girls.

“I'd just like to say a big thank you to my team. I would not be here without them. It has been hard so thank you very much to all of them and also the national lottery, all their players as well.

“Without them we wouldn't have the support to run as well and be supported by our federation as well so thank you very much everybody.”

We will have a new Olympic champion in the men's high jump.

After one of the joint-winners in Tokyo, Gianmarco Tamberi, crashed out early, Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim has just had three successive failures.

Barshim's best height of 2.34m will only be enough for bronze this time.

Either Hamish Kerr of New Zealand, or USA athlete Shelby McEwan will top the podium.

Former GB 400m runner on BBC Radio 5 Live

Trevor Painter [Georgia Bell's coach] said to me she’s just got a racing brain. She understands how to race.

She doesn’t get fazed by big occasions.

She’s lined up against the likes of Laura Muir at the British Championships and beaten her this year, and she trains with Keely Hodgkinson so what more inspiration do you need?

'I had to run my own race'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 10 August

    Women's 1500m final

Laura Muir on BBC One: “You know what, I'm just really happy with it. I ran the fastest I ever have, I can't ask any more. I ran perfectly what I wanted to. I just knew I had to run my own race, they went off so fast at the start.

"I picked off so many people unfortunately just 10m too short but I ran absolutely what I wanted to and fastest time I ever have.

“I can't complain but congrats to Georgia - absolutely amazing.

“I just know with my physiology I run my fastest times like that and they went so fast. I just knew if I did that I'd be out the back door.

“I had to run my own race and I'm really glad I did that. I was patient and I don't know if I would have run much faster any other way. I ran the fastest I ever have.

"I can't ask for any more and yeah that was the plan it worked unfortunately it wasn't quite fast enough.”

Correction to that earlier post: Georgia Bell took four seconds off her pre-Olympics best in that final, and has taken 14 seconds off her previous best over the course of this season.

Still, that is very impressive and a great show of peaking at the right time.

Quick as you like for Rebecca McGowan!

She's beaten Astan Bathily of the Ivory Coast 2-0 to ensure she'll go through to the bronze medal match.

That was quick from the Scot - she still looked very sharp, and credit to her for putting the visible disappointment of the quarter-final behind her to come back out and give herself another crack at a medal.

She'll fight Turkey's Nafia Kus Aydin for bronze at 20:04 BST.
