We're almost ready to get under way at La Defense Arena with the swimming heats and it's a morning packed full of Brits with Adam Peaty the big headline.

There's a roar from the crowd as the announcer gets things going and I can see flags waving all around this brilliant stadium.

After getting absolutely soaked at the opening ceremony last night I'm pleased to be watching people in the pool rather than looking like I've been for a dip.

That was a nice start for the British pair and I'm sure they'll be happy to get that out of the way with one of their easier dives out of the five.

Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper scored 50.40 in their first dive, putting them in second place after round one of five. China are in first place with USA in third.

    And that should be it!

Wales' Gareth Furlong gets his second of the match as his strike from a corner has enough power to beat Spain's goalkeeper and trickle into the corner of the net.

Now it's the turn of the British fans to make some noise.

It's fair to say that first dive went down very well with the China fans in the crowd.

Chen Yiwen and Chang Yaniget score 52.80 from the judges.

End of the third quarter and GB still in control with 15 minutes left to play in their Pool A opener Spain once again had chances but failed to take them.

GB captain David Ames rallies his troops as the final quarter gets going.

As Leon Taylor has just pointed out on TV, we could see one of the Chinese divers, Chang Yani, has a lot of strapping and bandages. Will that impact her ability to dive? Maybe.

Scarlett Mew Jensen has had a back injury, she has had about a month of preparation coming in to this Olympic Games.

I don't think that will faze her and Yasmin Harper. They seem really happy, they look good individually so they have to put it together.

I think their focus is just a good performance, if that gives them a medal then so be it.

It is important to have a relationship outside of diving and be friends. You need to communicate to each other, they need to be a team and that's what synchro is all about.

They deserve to be there, they are there because they are good enough.

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

These synchro diving events, it's straight to the final so no messing about. A medal is going to be decided in the course of an hour of competition. Scarlett Mew Jensen and Jasmin Harper have to be in contention. China will start as favourite.

As with all of the diving events, China start this one as big favourites.

Tom Daley started some Alex Ferguson-style mind games earlier this week.

"On paper you would consider them to win every single event," he said.

"I know every single one of the Chinese divers knows it is their competition to lose, which brings a lot pressure and expectation."

British pair Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen have won bronze at this year's world championships and silver last year so should be right in the mix.

Expect USA and Australia to feature too.

Those sports that don’t get that limelight all the time, but also it is the pinnacle to have those Olympic rings on your shirt and to play against the very best with the world watching is just amazing. The legacy of the Olympic games, the history. It comes out in every opening ceremony which his why it’s so special. I’m looking forward to the next two weeks."
