Both teams just had to wait a minute or two longer to start this next service game as the crowd was too busy doing a Mexican wave.

They got a round of applause off Carlos Alcaraz for their troubles.

Still, Andreas Molteni has held his serve, and it's off to a first-set tie-break we go.

There's frustration creeping into Fiji, and that's exactly what the French want. Fiji are now breaking up their team a bit to go from destruction to creativity. The big men are making way for the playmakers.

    OMG.

This is what Antoine Dupont is here to do!

The superstar scrum-half comes on at the break to a breathtaking ovation and shows why is so revered with a devastating run which enables France to go ahead.

On his shoulder to finish off the move is the man we've just told you about - Aaron Grandidier.

You must be able to hear the noise all the way at the Eiffel Tower.

You couldn't make it up. He has just come on the field. He makes an incredible break and goes past Jerry Tuwai as well, the Fiji talisman. That was an incredible start.

Fiji are experts at the kick-off but that was a fantastic take and just look at Dupont go. The pass back inside - the skill to do that - is just incredible.

    France are up.

Who else do you want in broken field for France but Antoine Dupont? The carry, the dummy, scoots around Jerry Tuwai, one of the best defenders in the competition, and he can't get near him. Aaron Grandidier somehow gets up to support. That's the combination for France.

La Defense Arena, the venue for the swimming at these Olympics, is remarkable.

It is a modern indoor arena that holds music gigs. Taylor Swift was here in May and Paul McCartney will play it later this year. It is also the home of French rugby union club 92.

But an Olympic-sized swimming pool is now where the rugby pitch would be, built amid a mass of scaffolding (see below).

The venue will host 17,000 people during these Games.

It has been a decent start after a bit of a wobbly opening few minutes in this match for the Spanish blockbuster pairing of Alcaraz and Nadal.

They are leading 5-4 against Argentina's Molteni and Gonzalez who are the sixth seeds who, unlike their opponents, have played together for a number of years. They really know each other's games and you can see that here.

Alcaraz and Nadal are having to find each other's feet, but it is starting to come together for them.

    Here's a half-time story for you...

Team GB might not have qualified for the men's rugby sevens, but a British-born player will be winning a medal.

Aaron Grandidier was born in London, grew up in Bromley and learnt to play rugby in Orpington.

But, when still a teenager, the 24-year-old winger decided to take advantage of his French mother's heritage and try his luck across the Channel.

    Why?

"To be completely honest, no-one was picking me up in England - no professional academies anyway. That's what I really wanted," Grandidier, who plays for French Top 14 side Pau in the 15s, told BBC Sport earlier.

"I found out France had a system that allowed you a bit more time to break out onto the scene so I was like you know what 'screw it, I've got nothing to lose, this is what I want to do'

"So I decided to chase it and pursue that dream. It's paying off now."

Anyone inside the Stade de France who hasn’t goosebumps isn’t human.

A rousing rendition of La Marseillaise gets the lump in the throat.

What an anthem. What an atmosphere.

The mood is quelled by Fiji’s opening try - for about 30 seconds before the French get behind their boys again.

Men's rugby sevens gold medal match: France v Fiji (18:45 BST)

    Jonathan Jurejko
BBC Sport at Stade de France

Who's going to win the gold medal in the men's rugby sevens, then?

The smart money has got to go on Fiji.

They have got the pedigree as two-time defending champions and the talent to beat France - like they did in the pool stage.

But France have got home advantage, the energy of the crowd and the X factor of Antoine Dupont.

If I had to put my last fiver on it, it'd be safer on Fiji.

Former England star Ugo Monye, who is working here as a broadcaster, kind of said the same when I chatted to him earlier - and knows a million things more about rugby than I do.
