Great Britain's Charley Davison will shortly start her Olympic campaign against Turkey’s Hatice Akbas.

The bantamweight lost in the second round in Tokyo three years ago, but believes she is in the right physical and mental state to go further this time.

Davison's opponent, Akbas, won bantam gold at the 2022 Worlds and European bronze in 2023. She has been preparing for the games by training at altitude and against men.

They will take to the ring at 19:00 BST.

Little over FIVE minutes to go until the gold-medal match.

Oh, and France are playing. You know it. Things are getting wild in the Stade de France.

The noise levels have bust the decibel-meter as a DJ wearing Olympic-ring glasses bangs out electro house classic Benny Benassi.

Beyonce coming on leads to punters dancing behind the booth like they're in an MTV video.

Word on the street is President Macron will be in the house, too.

He might bump and grind if France win their first gold of the home Games here...

How does rugby sevens work?published at 18:38 British Summer Time 27 July

Men's rugby sevens gold medal match - France v Fiji (18:45 BST)

Played on a full-size pitch but with seven players, teams contest two seven-minute halves per match and have been playing several games in a day since it began on Wednesday.

With only three forwards on the pitch, there are fewer scrums and line-outs than in the 15-a-side game but the rules are the same.

The pace of the game is relentless and with wide-open spaces, players need to have both speed and stamina in attack as well as strength and positioning in defence.

Points are scored in the same way as the 15-a-side game: five points for a try, two for a conversion, and three for a drop-goal or penalty.

Carlos Alcaraz is like a kid at Christmas.

He's obviously taking it seriously - it is the Olympics, after all - but he's got a big grin on his face every time Rafa Nadal whips away a trademark forehand or lets out a "vamos!"

It's ridiculously endearing. They've done well to get the break of serve straight back as well after a slightly loose game to start the match from Alcaraz.

    Drama!

When Australia levelled at 19-19 with 20 seconds to go - having fought back from 19-7 midway down through the second half - we thought sudden-death extra time was a dead cert.

    Enter Shaun Williams.

Two minutes after coming on, the South African sub swivels and scampers down the left to win bronze for his nation.

The players rush to mob Williams behind the posts as everyone on the bench jumps for joy.

The Blitzboks (class nickname) only sneaked into the Olympics through the last repechage event but have matched their Rio 2016 bronze.

We've just heard some big news relating to the Canada drone scandal.

Fifa have issued a six-point deduction to Canada at the Olympic women's football tournament following the flying of a drone over New Zealand's training session on Monday.

Canada manager Bev Priestman has been suspended from "taking part in any football-related activity" for a year, along with her assistant Jasmine Mander and analyst Joseph Lombardi.

The 28-year-old recorded a time of 97.31 seconds in the first heat, and 95.95 in the second to finish in twelfth overall.

Australia's Jessica Fox, regarded as the greatest female slalom paddler of all time, topped qualifying after recording the fastest time of the session at 92.18 seconds.

Poland's Klaudia Zwolinska finished in second, with Camille Prigent of France in third.

Among the throngs of French tricolores around the Stade de France, Aisake Mukudabo and Adi Malukye caught my eye.

Because they've got Fijian flags - with the distinctive Pacific cyan instantly visible - draped around their shoulders.

"We know we're outnumbered," laughs Adi. "But we'll will be cheering extra loud so our players can hear us."

Aisake adds: "We are the favourites, of course. So I think we will win and because we have already beaten them."

Have they travelled 17,000km from Fiji to be here? They both laugh.

They live in the UK - Salisbury and Windsor to be exact - and have popped over the Channel.

    Nadal/Alcaraz v Molteni/Gonzalez - men's doubles, first round

    Amy Lofthouse

When I say it's loud inside this court, I mean it.

There are Spanish flags everywhere you look and the roof nearly comes off with the noise as Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz walk out on court together for the doubles.

Rafa's gone for the white headband, wristbands and the yellow collar on the Spain shirt, while Carlos has opted for the darker red number.

There's a more subdued reaction, with a few boos thrown in, for the Argentine pair Andres Molteni and Maximo Gonzalez.

French fans have been upset by the behaviour of Argentina's footballers towards their nation, and that's carried over into the tennis tonight.

Although I strongly suspect Alcaraz and Nadal would get the loudest support no matter who they were playing...

  13. Day one - so farpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 27 July

Great Britain have won two medals on the opening day of the Olympics for the first time in 44 years.

Divers Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen won women's synchronised 3m springboard final bronze this morning, before cyclist Anna Henderson claimed silver in the women's road race time trial.

Away from medal events, GB's Adam Peaty and James Wilby secured their place in the men's 100m breaststroke semi-final, while Keanna Macinnes qualified for the semi-final of the women's 100m butterfly.

Adam Burgess qualified in second for the men's canoe singles semi-final on Monday, GB men's hockey team started their campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over Spain in Pool A and GB qualified for the men's gymnastic team final.

And while GB's Laura Collett set a new Olympic record with her leading score in the eventing dressage, there was disappointment for Josh Tarling who finished fourth in the men's individual time trial after picking up a puncture.

After booing them throughout the tournament, there has been a softening in the stance of the Stade de France towards Argentina in the past hour.

When veteran Argentina captain Gaston Revol walked off the pitch for the final time, substituted in what is the last match of his illustrious sevens career, a warm applause greeted him trudging to the touchline.

There has also been a generous reception afforded to the Argentine players as they walk around the perimeter of the pitch.

Los Pumas players are thanking the fans - including many of their compatriots - and receiving lots of clapping in return.

Argentina beat the United States 19-0 to secure a seventh-place finish, shortly before New Zealand won 17-7 against Ireland for fifth spot.

The GB guys are currently in good shape.

We are still looking at Jake Jarman qualifying first in floor. Max Whitlock is second on pommel horse. Harry Hepworth is still in first position on vault. We still have Joe Fraser on parallel bars and high bar.

So there are still lots of finals to play for - but it is a waiting game, especially with subdivision three just around the corner tonight as well.

Sandro Bazadze said the referees at the Olympics had "killed him for a second time" after the Georgian world number one lost in the last 16 of the men's sabre.

Bazadze, who turns 31 on Monday, refused to leave the piste, and bellowed at Spanish match referee Vanesa Chichon after she referred to the video and adjudged that Egyptian Mohamed Amer had got the touch giving him a 15-14 win.

The two-time European champion went on shouting at her as she walked away, but she ignored him and exited the arena.

"For the second time as in Tokyo the referees kill me," a distraught Bazadze said.

"In Tokyo they destroyed my life, almost finished my career.

"But I came back and became first in the world and prepare for the Olympic Games but she kills me."

    Equestrian - eventing dressage test

    Sonja McLaughlan
BBC commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Animal charity PETA sent some photos to the FEI which appeared to show Carlos Parro - who was riding a horse called Safira - creating unnecessary discomfort to a horse. The horse had a hyperflexion of his neck and sometimes in that situation oxygen can be restricted.

Parro is here riding for Brazil, and he has been given a warning by the FEI, but he was allowed to ride in the eventing dressage test earlier today.

In the current climate, it's not what we want to see but it does show the FEI are taking these things seriously.

Disappointment for Mkheidze as French gold wait goes onpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 27 July

    Judo - men's under-60kg

France's first gold medal of their home Olympics has not come in the men's under-60kg judo.

Luka Mkheidze has been beaten by Yeldos Smetov of Kazakhstan. Smetov picked up two early penalties for non-combativity, but threw Mkheidze for a waza-iri which was enough to secure gold.

Mkheidze takes silver for France, after compatriot Shirine Boukli picked up a bronze in the women's under-48kg earlier.

So the French gold wait goes on - will it come in the men's rugby sevens?
