A rave has broken out in the Stade de France while there is a pause in the rugby sevens.

Legendary French dance DJ Bob Sinclar - World, Hold on and Love Generation are the two which the millennials among us will have bopped around to in a nightclub - is spinning the tunes.

The goalposts are lighting up in neon and the floodlights are flashing to the beat.

If France win later, Bob had better be back for an encore.

Wout van Aert is such a courageous rider, and looks the part. You know he has a big opportunity here, so on top of it, he's absolutely storming along.

    Ros Canter

With a surname like Canter, this is something GB’s final eventing team member really was born to do.

I watched world number one Ros Canter, on Lordships Graffalo, getting ready to head out into the arena a short while ago. Yes working on, among other things, the canter.

So far today we have seen British team-mates Laura Collett and Tom McEwan put in strong opening performances in the dressage phase of the eventing - not least Collett’s Olympic record score which sees her top the leaderboard.

What can Canter produce? An Ed Sheeran mix is the chosen soundtrack against the dramatic backdrop provided by the Palace of Versailles… and the sixth-best score of the day leaves the British team top of the standings with only a handful of riders still to go.

A solid day's work by the team ahead of tomorrow’s cross-country out and around these spectacular grounds.

Considering Josh Tarling had to stop, change bikes and get going again he is doing very well, only trailing Wout van Aert by three seconds to this point. Not perturbed by that earlier crash. He's in the hunt, very, very impressive.

    Promising signs from the Welshman.

Two-time world champion Eliska Mintalova is in third.

The 22 fastest after both runs qualify for Sunday's semi-final.

You can see it was a front-wheel puncture, quite a quick change but it is at least a 15 second loss. As soon as you have started and stopped in a race the best scenario is 15 seconds loss at those speeds, so terrible news for Josh Tarling.

Bad news for GB's Josh Tarling.

Work to do for the Welshman.

The disc wheel is just causing Wout van Aert to twitch a little bit - it doesn't take much of a gust to push you around. Some courage to use that in these conditions but it shows that he is committed to this event for sure.

  16. What has happened so far on day one?published at 16:17 British Summer Time 27 July

Great Britain have won two medals on the opening day of the Olympics for the first time in 44 years.

Divers Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen won women's synchronised 3m springboard final bronze this morning, before cyclist Anna Henderson claimed silver in women's road race time trial.

Away from medal events, GB's Adam Peaty and James Wilby secured their place in the men's 100m breaststroke semi-final, while Keanna Macinnes qualified for the semi-final of the women's 100m butterfly.

GB men's hockey team started their campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win over Spain in Pool A and Team GB's Laura Collett set a new Olympic record with her leading score in the eventing dressage today.

And in tennis, Novak Djokovic's bid for a much-wanted Olympic gold medal began in style with a 6-0 6-1 demolition of Matthew Ebden in just 53 minutes.

There were plenty of falls in the women's time trial earlier with the treacherous conditions, but the men are doing well to stay on their bikes so far. It looks like the weather has cleared up slightly.

We've just had our first finisher - Amir Ansari of the Refugee Olympic Team with a time of 48.076.

GB's Josh Tarling will be heading off next.

All the effort this year has been worth it - Hendersonpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 27 July

    Anna HendersonImage source, Getty Images

Team GB silver medallist Anna Henderson speaking to BBC One: "I can't believe you're actually saying it. I had a small feeling that maybe I could push for the podium and to be second behind somebody like Grace Brown, I can't believe it. I burst into tears when I found out.

"All the effort this year has been worth it. I've broken my collarbone twice year and it has been a really rough year, so to achieve a goal like this is unbelievable."

On winning silver by a second: "I missed the worlds' podium last year by two seconds and I was thinking to myself, 'This is not going to happen again.' So I kept pushing all the way to the line, really horrible conditions out there today so I was really thankful that I could just stay upright on my bike as well. I was a bit of a grandma on the corners but that paid off and I used my power on the straights, and here I am."

On the tricky conditions: "It is really strange, I kind of blacked out through the whole thing. I knew I had to be super cautious because a lot of the girls had problems today. I am just really happy to be here and happy it paid off. I can't say anything else."

One time trial down, on to the next.

The men's event is well under way and Britain's Josh Tarling rolls down the ramp at 16:15 BST.

Welshman Tarling has been turning a lot of heads in the cycling world, having last year taken World Championship bronze behind Remco Evenepoel and Filippo Ganna, and winning European gold.

The 20-year-old Ineos Grenadier already has his post-race plans sorted - a trip to those famous golden arches.

Well if it’s good enough for an Olympian….
