So that's it from a pulsating derby in the capital city where Scarlets have clinched a first win of the season against Cardiff.

Gareth Davies scored twice - as he so often does here - before Johnny Williams grabbed a third.

Cardiff almost pulled off another comeback win against these opponents with Harri Millard scoring twice before the pack won a penalty try that put Scarlets down to 13 men.

But the visitors clung on with a huge defensive display to get their season up and running at last.

    Goodbye for now.

Scarlets should take huge satisfaction from the way they pulled together as a team and grabbed a win in the capital.

It was two teams that wanted to play rugby and it was a pleasure to watch the game.

Cardiff tried to play rugby but Scarlets' defence was very good.

Fair play to Scarlets and Gareth Davies controlling the game and doing what he does in scoring tries. The visitors fully deserved the win today.

  4. Man of the Match: Ioan Lloyd (Scarlets)published at 17:05 British Summer Time 12 October

Plenty of big performers today for Scarlets, notably Johnny Williams, Taine Plumtree and two-try Gareth Davies.

But it is fly-half Ioan Lloyd who has been named man of the match for the second year in a row in this fixture.

He took over from Sam Costelow today and marshalled the back line superbly.

He told Premier Sport: "I'm happy to get the win to be honest, a bit tired now.

"There's a big wind out there and we were lucky in the first half to play with the wind.

"We made a big point at half-time to manage the wind a bit and fair play to the boys who put in a big shift to win some crucial penalties.

"Going into next week I'm looking to build on that performance and whatever will come will come in terms of international selection."

Scarlets captain Josh Macleod speaking to Premier Sport:

"We've been close a couple of times and they turned us over at Parc y Scarlets and we owed them one.

"They put us under pressure, down to 13 men for a while, but I thought we managed the yellow cards well and showed resilience and sometimes that's what you need."

Agreed Ian. I don't think you can underestimate what a big win that is for Scarlets.

Had they let that slip from leading 25-12 and still been without a win this season would have been awful.

You honestly would worry where the season would be going after that.

But to hold on - at one point down to 13 men - will give them so much belief that the season could now be looking up.

    Huge result.

Scarlets have made this happen. They have shown some class and their defence has been fantastic.

This is a game that can give you confidence, when you overcome the odds away from home. They have been superb at times.

  8. Full-time: Cardiff 19-25 Scarletspublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 12 October

    It is the game.

Sam Costelow kicks the ball out and Scarlets hang on for a vital win.

Unfortunately Ian, not when Rhys Litterick knocks on and Scarlets' players punch the air.

Johnny Williams has been huge for the visitors today.

    Is that the game?

Some fans are leaving. Cardiff ones I presume!

It seems almost inevitable that Cardiff will cross the line at some point.

Scarlets are back up to the full complement of players now having held out so well. Their blitz defence has been such a weapon but how do you blitz with 13 men?

Referee Craig Evans is doing well to not get too carried away and is allowing this derby to unfold.

Scarlets have another scrum deep inside their own half.

Costelow again clears to about 25 metres out.

Wales team-mates Ryan Elias and Teddy Williams are scrapping on the floor.

Something happened at a ruck and the two forwards emerge throwing each other to the ground.

    It's all happening.

Macleod is back on and Scarlets back to full strength for the final three minutes.

Scarlets somehow hold out and have a scrum inside their own 22.

Sam Costelow pumps the ball back up to halfway.

Macleod is itching to get back.

It looked like a slap down there. I was expecting the referee to turn and give a penalty for Cardiff.

Scarlets are pulling off some big moments here but can they hold out? Everything is in Cardiff's favour at the moment.

Cardiff are attacking and the crowd are on their feet.

    This is a nail-biting finish!

Tom Rogers is back on the field so Scarlets back up to 14 men.

If Cardiff can't score against 13 men then they arguably don't deserve to win.

Gareth Davies is very annoyed after that driving maul.

He wanted the ball back to put it deep in Cardiff's half but Ryan Elias wanted to keep it in the driving maul.

HUGE eight minutes coming up for the Scarlets.

If they hold on with 13 men it could totally galvanise their season.

But if they lose after being 25-12 ahead, it will be a sickener.

That was very close but Blair Murray has done brilliantly to stop that try.

Up against a two on one and he's shown great speed to stop Gabriel Hamer-Webb.
