To counter Andy Farrell's argument about the wet pitch, Waratahs boss Dan McKellar denies that they watered the pitch.

McKellar suggests Andy Farrell was probably sunning himself in Brisbane when there was horrible weather in Sydney on Tuesday.

Ben Earl showed his carrying prowess for the Lions against NSW Waratahs.

The number eight registered 21 carries, the most of any player from both sides.

The Saracens back rower will be hoping for a Test spot.

After the game, he said: "I'm competing against some of the best players in the world for a back row test spot. How cool is that?"

Earl has now played in three games for the Lions, and has started two of those.

He added: "I wouldn’t say I’m happy with my performance, but I'm satisfied tonight.

"There was absolutely no complacency. How can there be complacency when you're playing for the Lions? It's impossible when you're pulling on this shirt and badge."

That means Owen Farrell will potentially play only once before the first Test.

Is that enough rugby to be involved in the Test opener? He hasn't played in nearly nine weeks.

  6. Owen Farrell not considered for Brumbiespublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 5 July

Lions head coach Andy Farrell confirmed Owen Farrell will not be considered for selection on Wednesday against the Brumbies as he recovers from jet lag.

That means his son, who is on his fourth Lions tour, will be first available for the Lions against Invitational AU & NZ next Saturday.

Mack Hansen is massively overrated in my opinion. He as not offered much at all.

  8. What are the top 10 moments in Lions history?published at 13:58 British Summer Time 5 July

    FT: NSW Waratahs 10-21 Lions

What are the top 10 moments in British and Irish Lions history?

In a new podcast series on BBC Sounds, former Lions Matt Dawson and Jamie Roberts join BBC rugby union correspondent Chris Jones to rank a number of Lions topics.

    Their number one pick?

Jeremey Guscott's late drop-goal from in front of the posts to win the second Test against South Africa and the 1997 series.

Dawson: "It had to go to Jerry. He was one of those individuals that when he was in the mood then whatever happens give the ball to Jeremy Guscott.

"He had that ability. I didn't think he was going to go for a drop-goal, I thought he had seen space to go for the try."

    Listen to the full debate.

  9. Roaring Lions - Alex Mitchellpublished at 13:56 British Summer Time 5 July

    FT: NSW Waratahs 10-21 Lions

Alex Mitchell scored a try, delivered an excellent 50-22 and was a constant threat, especially in the second half.

With Ben White only getting 10 minutes on his Lions debut, Mitchell looks likely to make the Test match-day squad.

Tomos Williams' tour-ending injury looks less of a concern now.

  11. Roaring Lions - Scott Cummingspublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 5 July

    FT: NSW Waratahs 10-21 Lions

A few comments on Scott Cummings and his unsung work.

The Scotland lock missed the Six Nations through injury and was a surprise selection in the initial squad.

A tough outing against Western Force, where he struggled at claiming some restarts, is well behind him after that performance against NSW Waratahs.

The 28-year-old put in some big hits and was regularly putting scrum-half Teddy Wilson under pressure.

Don't rule out Cummings just yet for the Tests...

British and Irish Lions number eight Ben Earl, speaking to Sky Sports: "I know how good our back row is at the moment. Everyone is playing so well. I knew I had to go out and put my best foot forward.

"Some good bits to my game and some not so good bits. A mixed bag.

"You can see the quality on the pitch. We're only going to get better. You can see the growth from Argentina through to tonight."

  14. Roaring Lions - Ben Earlpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 5 July

    FT: NSW Waratahs 10-21 Lions

Ben Earl showed off his ball-carrying power and high work rate.

Comfortable at seven and number eight, he needed a big performance to put himself into the Test mix after a strong showing from his back row rival Jac Morgan, who picked up player of the match against Queensland Reds on Wednesday.

Earl played the end of the game at 12 on Wednesday, another string to his bow.

British and Irish Lion Huw Jones, speaking to Sky Sports: "Always nice to get over the line. Probably didn't go to plan. A lot of errors in the second half. A lot of learnings to take from that one."

On his Scotland and Glasgow Warriors centre partner Sione Tuipolotu, who started at inside centre: "We work hard a lot in training around getting connected. A lot of it is to do with timing. We're constantly talking in the game about which gaps we're targeting.

"The first try when we ran down together - I know we're splitting out one defender. We have got to make the outside guy make a decision."

Two excellent tries has further pushed Huw Jones' case for that Test 13 jersey.

  20. 'It is a fantastic learning for us' - Farrellpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 5 July

    FT: NSW Waratahs 10-21 Lions

    British and Irish Lions

British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell, speaking to Sky Sports: "I wouldn't say satisfied, but satisfied with winning.

"With the amount of territory and possession we had to come away with such a strong ball - to say we left a few out there is an understatement really.

"We didn't come out of the blocks hard enough. We need to address that. We need to address our exits after scoring tries.

"It is a fantastic learning for us. That's what we do with every match. We will address that before the Brumbies game.

"It will be a great [Brumbies] side as they have shown. Not just this season, but in 2013 as well. We know what we're in for there."

On Owen Farrell's arrival: "He slept last night, so hopefully the jet lag isn't too bad.

On if he will play the Brumbies on Wednesday: "Probably not. I don't know with jet lag you have got to go through certain protocols."
