The remaining Lions backs are mostly functional and unspectacular after the loss of Tomos Williams and Elliot Daly. Keenan's solid, but Kinghorn at full-back can be an X-factor. Would love to see him in a Test back three with Tommy Freeman and James Lowe.

Taniela Tupou goes for an intercept but is unable to hold it. Funny because I'd back him to go the length (or close to it).

Lots of errors means this game is yet to get going.

Another scrum penalty for the Lions.

Owen Farrell was just shown on the big screen inside the stadium, and the reception? A mixture of cheers and jeers.

Owen laughed it off. He looks happy to be here.

Once again it is close but no cigar for the Lions. Mack Hansen always tries to get his hands free, but the ball ends up going down.

It’s a mild evening in Sydney, not a breath of wind inside this incredible stadium that sits below street level. Cracking atmosphere building as well.

Maybe a last opportunity for some Lions to prove their Test credentials.

Should point out that in four weeks time the final test will not be held here but at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Stadium.

What will happen in those four weeks?

Henry Pollock had already played with Beirne, Curry, Van der Flier, Earl and Conan during this tour at seven and eight.

He was due to play at six today before having to withdraw as a precaution, so there's a strong case to say he was being prepared to cover all three positions from the bench before being ruled out.

However, he was involved in the warm-up so his calf problem doesn't look to be too bad.

  15. Is wing an option for Kinghorn?published at 10:58 British Summer Time

NSW Waratahs v Lions (11:00 BST)

Blair Kinghorn makes his Lions debut on the wing after being delayed in linking up with the tour because of his Top 14 commitments.

Scotland's Kinghorn started both Toulouse's Top 14 semi and final on the left wing, where he finds himself against NSW Waratahs.

All the chat is about who will wear the 15 Test jersey between Kinghorn and Keenan, well is a wing spot an option?

Mack Hansen and Tommy Freeman have impressed on the right wing but could Kinghorn challenge James Lowe on the other side?

However, Keenan's illness might have played a factor in the decision to put Kinghorn on the wing.

    Both need minutes.

The Allianz crowd are cranking it up. Unlike at the Optus Stadium and the Suncorp in Brisbane our press box has giant glass windows that you can actually open to let the noise in.

At the Gabba in Brisbane in 2001, when Brian O'Driscoll scored his wonder try in the first Lions Test, the atmosphere was supposed to have been unbelievable.

Us scribblers sat in silence in our glass cage. Hadn't a clue how good it was out there. We can hear the locals tonight, loud and clear.

I feel like Ben Earl needs a big game here and it'll be interesting to see how Ben White does off the bench. Hoping for solid but injury-free performances from Keenan and Kinghorn, as despite what Andy Farrell said, I don't think the Lions do have lots of full-back options without Daly. Marcus Smith isn't a 15 and I was disappointed that Blair Murray wasn't called-up.

  18. Second time lucky for Keenanpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time

NSW Waratahs v Lions (11:00 BST)

Hugo Keenan has not played in over a month after missing the end of Leinster's season with a calf injury.

His Lions tour was due to get started on Wednesday but he withdrew from the starting team on the day of the game because of illness.

The 29-year-old is a favourite of Andy Farrell's but his fitness has opened the door at 15, with Keenan also not quite at his scintillating best form from Ireland's 2023 Grand Slam-winning campaign.

Now with Elliot Daly gone, Keenan has the perfect chance to remind everyone what he can do and nail down his starting spot.

He does not have time for another false start....

Marcus Smith needs a big game to get near the Test squad.

    Colin

Henry Pollock's withdrawal is a big opportunity for Tadgh Beirne to nail down a Test starting jersey. Itoje, as captain, is nailed on for a starting spot, if fit, most likely alongside Joe McCarthy, who has looked very good so far on tour. Beirne could be used as a utility six in the back row, given his versatility and relationship with Andy Farrell.
