"We found a way to get points on the board. Fair play to the Waratahs, they were tough today, and they made everything a fight. We're not there yet, but we're getting there.

"I think we struggled, the greasy ball, the breakdown made it tough for us."

On the half-time team talk: "It was for us half-backs to get more control - we were a bit loose with the ball.

"We needed to put pressure back on them, but errors kept them in the game.

"Overall, pretty happy, but we need to go again."

On his plans for this evening: "Not sure what I'm going to do tonight. Sydney is amazing. I might have a few schooners tonight, but we will wait and see."

British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell says his son Owen will "probably not" be involved on Wednesday against the Brumbies.

He said they will need to look at jet-lag and other factors.

Many home fans arrived at the stadium worried about the scoreline today knowing this is far from a vintage NSW Waratahs team.

I'd think they'll be fairly content with only two scores separating the sides at the final whistle.

It's great when you can rack up fifty points a game and look good doing it.

But this game has, at the very least, been a contest and in some areas the Lions have been found lacking.

But better now than in a fortnight's time.

One of the areas has been the breakdown where NSW Waratahs have been aggressive and the Lions have been penalised on numerous occasions.

And then there have been the handling errors. Going to need more than my fingers and toes to add them up….

Marcus Smith kicks the ball dead from a penalty. You simply can't do that if you want a Test spot.
