The decibels rise as Jamison Gibson-Park puts the ball into the scrum....only for it to collapse.

There's still 35 minutes left but it feels like there is a lot riding on this set-piece.

Gibson-Park shapes up again, and Ireland win a free-kick. They're going to tap and go.

A dead-duck of a kick. They are the worst to try and catch.

Cadan Murley finds himself in a pickle after misjudging the ball. He picks it up in his in goal area and is smothered right on the line.

Ireland put enough pressure on and manage to win the scrum right on the English line. Huge chance.

    Matt Dawson

I love the way England have come out fast and furious. I am not sure how long that will last but it is good to see.

They are challenging Ireland and showing them they are not getting a kicking game.

England win an early penalty and send it into the corner. They win their throw, but there's deemed to be a forward pass by Alex Mitchell and Ireland have the scrum in their own 22.

England trailed in all of their Six Nations matches last year. They've already bucked that trend this year.

Here's a stat form Russ Petty, the last time the team leading at half-time when Ireland played England at home was 1983.

Ben Curry said before kick-off that there he was determined not be overawed by the Aviva stage, promising to "rip in" like he has in a Sale shirt this season.

He has showed up well in the stats in that first half as well, leading England's tackle count with a superb 15, not missing a single one.

Elsewhere Ben Earl has done well on the other side of the ball. Only Freddie Steward, Tommy Freeman and Marcus Smith have more than his 28.5m with ball in hand among the visitors.

Looking at the Ireland bench, there is a ton of experience to bring on if needed.

Dan Sheehan, Cian Healy, Iain Henderon, Jack Conan, Conor Murray, Jack Crowley and Robbie Henshaw have all been there and done it.

The only unfamiliar name is prop Thomas Clarkson, who only made his debut in November.

Remember, Ireland are aiming to be the first team to win three men's Six Nations titles in a row.

England are looking for their first title since 2020.

It's early days, but how pivotal will these next 40 minutes be in the context of the championship?

  16. Who can get more from their bench?published at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: Ireland 5-10 England

    Jonathan Bradley
BBC Sport NI Journalist at Aviva Stadium

England tripled down on breakdown threats in their back row and it worked a treat early on in disrupting Ireland during that first half.

Simon Easterby's side looked a tad more comfortable as the game wore on, although a chunk of that came with Marcus Smith in the bin.

The question in the second half is can England keep it up? And how much will that six/two split on the bench come into play?

Ireland have some heavy hitters held in reserve too.

  18. 'A real lack of accuracy from Ireland'published at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time

    HT: Ireland 5-10 England

    Tommy Bowe
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There is a real lack of accuracy from Ireland. They are making a lot of mistakes and have had a huge number of opportunities in England's 22.

It is not the silk Irish performance that we are used to seeing.
