    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

I mentioned his stats already, but Maro Itoje delivered a performance worth of any Lions skipper.

As he said himself, not even the captain is 100% a Test starter.

The lock produced big moments in the second half from his try to stealing the ball back.

The question is now, who partners him?

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lions wing Tommy Freeman said: "The travel to the different destinations takes it's toll as well so we have to keep the body as fresh as possible to go again.

"There is always time for fun as well. You want to enjoy every moment on and off the pitch."

Freeman and Hansen to start on the wings for the Lions. Both proven finishers, strong in defence and attack, who pop up all over the pitch and who bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the Lions

    Tola Munro, Newport

James Lowe and Duhan van der Merwe are also proven finishers.....

    Oh, the Lions is fun!

That was a tone-setter from the captain Maro Itoje, putting in a top performance off the back of fellow lock Joe McCarthy's player-of-the-match performance against Western Force.

"The whole point of this tour is you're with great players. I know that if I'm not playing well, I won't be picked," Itoje said.

  7. Roaring Lions - Jac Morganpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 2 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

Jac Morgan's three turnovers and endless work rate could help to nail down a Test jersey.

Even with game over on the clock, Morgan still get over the ball and won the penalty that led to Garry Ringrose's try.

Josh van der Flier has also been excellent, so could Morgan play at six instead?

"If he plays like he did today, he can play wherever he wants," Andy Farrell said.

"He was everywhere. His offloading game was great, he was aggressive with his hitting.

"He'll be delighted. The competition has started and there's reactions all over the place to come."

Elliot Daly has been great so far but does that injury mean that Darcy Graham will finally get the Lions call-up he desperately deserves?

  10. Roaring Lions - Huw Jonespublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 2 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

Scotland's Huw Jones showed exceptional pace for his try, but it was not always fluid with Bundee Aki.

Aki and Garry Ringrose are a proven combination at 12 and 13, the same goes for Sione Tuipulotu and Jones at Scotland.

Andy Farrell has tried mixing and matching the four centres, with no clear answer yet.

Saturday could potentially show where his thinking is at. If he wants Jones, then Tuipulotu may have to come with him as a package.

Better control in the second half as the Lions won the territory battle. The defence also stepped up; it was more physical.

Itoje was brilliant as was Daly - we wait on how bad his injury is - but I'm not sure the midfield is sorted yet.

  12. 'We've all got our fingers crossed for Daly'published at 13:30 British Summer Time 2 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

    British and Irish Lions

More from Andy Farrell on Elliot Daly: "He's got a bang on the forearm and he's going for an X-ray this evening so we've all got our fingers crossed.

"I'm not worried, we've got loads of full-backs. Hugo Keenan will be ready in a day or so and Blair Kinghorn is good to go."

  13. 'Constant learnings' - Farrellpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 2 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

    British and Irish Lions

British and Irish Lions head coach Andy Farrell, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was not flowing. When we got going we did play some good stuff.

"Our collision work was good and that helped us keep them out in the second half.

"We will always have constant learnings."

On Elliot Daly's injury: "He is pretty sore. We will get an X-ray."

Gonzo: Itoje was MOTM for me. While Morgan had a really good game he was not flawless, I'd give him 8 out of 10.

  16. Roaring Lions - Tommy Freemanpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 2 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

Two tries for Tommy Freeman keeps his Test hopes very much alive.

Speaking to Sky Sports in a Queensland Reds shirt, Freeman said: "It is really special as I made my England debut in this stadium.

"We have the detail and knowledge to perform like that.

"It is all about staying fit and delivering when you get an opportunity."

With Genge, Morgan, Mitchell, Freeman, Jones, Lowe and Daly all playing well, I would have a 6-2 bench spilt and I think Earl will then get in.

John: You sense that no matter how well Freeman plays and how many tries he scores, Hansen will get the nod.

  19. 'I'm loving being a part of this team'published at 13:09 British Summer Time 2 July

    FT: Queensland Reds 12-52 Lions

    British and Irish Lions

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lions captain Maro Itoje said: "We are happy. It was a good all-round performance. The first half was tough and heavily-contested, but we stayed consistent and were generally better.

"You learn more in games and it's probably a bit of a blessing in disguise that we have so many games in quick succession. The mantra today was just to be better and we were.

"We need to be sharper and more accurate. We broke the line loads of times but we weren't always accurate enough to score.

"I'm loving being a part of the team, I'm enjoying the challenge and spending time with all these great players. Long may it continue."
