So that's it from west London where South Africa have eased to a five-try victory over Wales.

It's a seventh defeat in a row for Wales and Warren Gatland who insists there were plenty of positives to take from the 41-13 loss.

Among those were up front where the likes of captain Dewi Lake, Taine Plumtree and Gareth Thomas showed up well.

Sam Costelow offered glimpses of control while Liam Williams was simply a step ahead of the rest of the Welsh backline.

And there were yet more new caps blooded with Ellis Bevan, James Ratti, Eddie James and Jacob Beetham all making their Test debuts.

But while Wales did well to recover from two early tries and two cards to come within a point at half-time, they were blown away in the second half.

The other positive was that the already depleted squad looks to have come through a bruising encounter with the only concern over tight-head Keiron Assiratti.

Wales' gruelling 18-game season now ploughs on to Australia where they face two Tests against the Wallabies.

South Africa meanwhile will be glad to get that rusty display out of their system before taking on Six Nations champs Ireland.

So join us for more live coverage of both of those tours.

You may be right there Derwyn.

Right now it's difficult to see what else another coach could do but if Wales suffer badly Down Under, Welsh patience may start running thin.

Wales must show in Australia there is something to build on.

I think there's a bit of momentum against Warren Gatland at present.

It can be difficult to come back for a second time but you just feel there's a bit of negativity towards him.

I don't know what the future holds, and I imagine a lot depends on those games in Australia.

By the end of the year, if we're not winning games, I think people might be calling for change.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland on S4C: "There were lots of good things out there today, we created opportunities, but at this level you've got to finish them off.

"We dug in in the first half and we just had to make sure in those big moments we stayed switched on. It's pretty crucial for us.

"For me, there's lots of positives to build on.

"I thought we defended well at times and I thought Dewi Lake was outstanding today.

"I was reasonably pleased with that. A couple of tough calls went against us which was a bit hard to take.

"But there's some really good things for us to work on."

  5. Too much kicking - Phillipspublished at 16:15 22 June

Former Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips speaking on S4C: "There was too much kicking for me.

"South Africa went through the gears in that second half and it looked like they could score whenever they wanted.

"One or two individuals stood out, Dewi Lake.

"But they'll be better for this game going out to Australia."

You look at who played well for Wales; Dewi Lake, Matthew Screech, Taine Plumtree, Aaron Wainwright - all forwards.

We saw bits of Liam Williams aerially and that was simply through South Africa's kicking game

Our backs didn't have the ball, they didn't give themselves a chance to play.

I just think the mindset was probably wrong going into the game, it was a game of containment more than anything else.

But the effort was there... there is going to be a lot to review and preview going into that Australia trip.

  7. Scoreline harsh - Lakepublished at 16:08 22 June

    FT: South Africa 41-13 Wales

Wales captain Dewi Lake told S4C: "I can't fault the effort of the boys.

"I don't think the score gives a fair reflection of the game. The last 20 or 30 minutes, there was just too much class from the South Africans.

"But that's what wee need to learn. We had chances to score in the game and we have to take them.

"There's no excuses from us, we want to play against the best and we have to take our chances when they come.

"We know what South Africa bring, they're a physical team and you have to stand up to that. We did for one half and it on us to do it for 80 minutes.

"We have to push these teams more now, that's what we have to learn."

With South Africa, you know what's coming, but it's so hard to stop.

But I still feel plenty of pride from that Welsh performance, it was a lot closer than I expected.

For me, the best player was Dewi Lake. He carried time and time again.

It's a hard one to judge because - let's be honest - expectations we so low for Wales.

That's a seventh defeat in a row but did anyone think it would be any different today?

I don't think South Africa have really got out of first gear today.

They've taken the opportunities when they've got them, but they haven't been great.

You can bet your bottom dollar that when they're reviewing this game, they won't be happy with this performance.

They'll take the good, park the bad and get on with the bigger, sterner tests to come.

Mistakes from Wales, but the main mistake comes from kicking and not competing.

It's far too easy for Fassi, he's been one of the better players today. Fair play to him.

The new Springbok wing has a try on his debut with a stunning solo effort.

There was little on when he recieved the ball close to the ruck but he spotted the mismatch and stepped past Harri O'Connor and Mackenzie Martin and then stepped on the gas between Winnett and Beetham.

    What a score.

The conversion takes South Africa past 40 points.

We're into the last seven minutes and - to be fair - it's not the hammering many had predicted and feared.

Another Wales score would really give them something to take into the tour.

Mackenzie Martin now on for Plumtree.

Wales have barely attacked with ball in hand.

They just haven't had the ball and they've been quite content with making the contact area a scrap.

Wales will be really happy with just making this game scrappy and trying to drag South Africa down.
