England are too easy to play through at the moment. They've been strong going forward, particularly in the early stages, and Smith has been excellent overall, but boy, have we been dire defensively. Curry is a big loss.

They need to lock-up Suaalii in the midfield and I'm not saying they need to be flash about it but someone needs to get stuck into him and make a big hit.

  3. Eyes on the benchpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

With England chasing the game, will we see 97-cap fly-half George Ford introduced off the bench?

Steve Borthwick was criticised for turning to Ford before England lost the lead against the All Blacks last week.

Will he stick with Marcus Smith or opt for Ford's experience once more?

All of a sudden it turned into international rugby, referee decisions, injuries, disorganisation.

It's never going to be 15 players going through the motions. It's going to be a big half-time discussion for Borthwick. We are sat by the coaches and you can tell when Australia changed the way they played.

It looked like Australia were going to accept a hammering, but then the last 20 minutes it has been completely different.

There was a lot of noise before kick-off about Australia debutant Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii.

The centre had a relatively quiet first half but for a couple of standout moments.

A leap into the Twickenham sky to reclaim a kick off was impressive, but his no-look offload for Tom Wright's try was a moment of genius.

  7. Half-time - England 18-20 Australiapublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 9 November

England led by 12 points after a couple of Chandler Cunningham-South tries but Australia have recovered brilliantly and take a two-point lead back to the sheds.

Sometimes I find Marcus Smith is way too deep. As if he is organising the next passage of play and forgets where he is.

You can't pile pressure on if you are that deep.

  10. Postpublished at 38 mins

    England 18-17 Australia

Australia win another penalty at the scrum and that is one area England will be wanting to tighten up.

It gives the Wallabies field position as they kick the ball to touch.

England started brightly but have gone off the boil a bit.

Tactically for Australia it's a pick and go, one out runners. England are fanning out, Australia with McDermott coming on are saying, let's test them and England have no answers.

  12. try

    Harry Wilson (con Noah Lolesio)

Australia's captain scores his first Test try, but it's all about the alertness of Tate McDermott.

The scrum-half has only been on the field for a few minutes but he snipes through at the breakdown once before doing it again a few phases later to set up Harry Wilson for the try.

Noah Lolesio bangs over the conversion and it's a one-point game.

It is a Test match. An eight-point lead gives you more breathing space. It'll give them more freedom.

  14. Penalty - England 18-10 Australiapublished at 29 mins

    Marcus Smith

England fly-half Marcus Smith has looked assured with ball in hand and from the boot.

Another penalty glides through the posts.

  15. Feyi-Waboso back onpublished at 28 mins

    England 15-10 Australia

England have the penalty and Marcus Smith points to the posts once more. In more good news for the hosts, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has passed his HIA and will return to the field.

Suaalii is six-foot-five with arms like Mr Tickle. It's like eight-foot when he has the ball in the air and that's really hard to stop.

    England 15-10 Australia

A little finger-roll basketball pass from Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii. That is a hint at how good he can be. He challenged the line with his pace.

  18. try

Converted Try - England 15-10 Australiapublished at 26 mins

    Tom Wright (con Noah Lolesio)

    Ruthless from the Wallabies.

The green and gold have the line-out deep in English territory before moving the ball wide.

It arrives with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii in midfield and the centre draws a couple of white shirts before popping a no-look pass over the top for Tom Wright to run in unopposed.

Noah Lolesio adds the conversion and Australia are back to within five.

Physically Australia seem to be in a better place than the last time I saw them play. There is steeliness, physically, dare I say a little bit of edge and nastiness. I have been very impressed with Australia so far.

The England flanker got his head in the wrong position in an attempt to tackle opposite number Rob Valetini.
