The Lions make some metres, but the Pumas' defence is holding firm and play is brought back for the penalty.

Smith sticks the ball into the corner. Big chance for the Lions to hit back.

The Lions win the penalty advantage from the scrum but they play on and are now right in the mixer in the 22.

Those combinations are starting to show some fluidity.

    This has been end-to-end stuff.

It's now the Lions turn to have a spell of possession and they manage to win the scrum thanks to Finlay Bealham.

This is a big moment for Irish prop Bealham, who wasn't even in the squad two weeks ago and is now straight into the starting team for this opener.

    Ignacio Mendy

    It's brilliant by Ignacio Mendy!

It comes from the line-out from Freeman's clearance. The Pumas win their throw and quickly spread it wide.

Santiago Carreras drags in three men and pops it wide to Mendy, who skips inside Van der Merwe to touch down.

Albornoz sticks the conversion wide, but that's a worthy try to give Argentina the lead.

Alex Mitchell does really well. He almost gets caught by the bounce of the ball and he's quickly gobbled up by the chasing Pumas.

However, he delivers a lovely pass out the back for Freeman on his own line, who hammers it clear.

Given Argentina haven't played a match in eight months, and the Lions in four years (!), it's been a really entertaining opening with both teams putting together some fluent attacking play.

A first three points in Lions colours for Fin Smith. I doubt they'll be the last.

Here comes van der Merwe again! He's making some huge metres with Tommy Freeman.

Fin Smith looks to kick the ball into the corner for Morgan, but Ignacio Mendy gets up really well to pluck the ball out of the air.

Argentina come forward but give away a penalty and Fin Smith points to the posts.

A bit of kicking practice for Fin Smith anyway...for those curious he strolled up to the tee and nailed the "conversion" as soon as it was clear that wasn't a try.

The Lions only managed two tries in the whole Test series against South Africa four years ago - both from rolling mauls. It very nearly did the trick again there, but Cowan-Dickie lost it on the line to the groans of the Aviva.

The first try of the 2025 Lions' series doesn't belong to Luke Cowan-Dickie after all. He couldn't ground the ball before it slipped out of his hands.

It was great work to get into position but he just couldn't finish it off.

Oh, hang on. Did the England hooker manage to get the ball down or did he spill it forward?

    We're going to the TMO.

Maro Itoje plucks the ball out of the air and that allows the Lions to spread their legs.

Duhan van der Merwe makes some great ground into the 22 and it finds its way out to Jac Morgan on the wing, but his pass inside finds a Pumas' jersey.

The Lions win the throw about seven metres out.

A cheer from the press box so loud it could probably be heard in Buenos Aires greeted the awarding of that penalty.

Given the panicked looks on the faces of one television crew, it could definitely be heard on the broadcast microphones, anyway!

Isgro now beats Smith in the air and Argentina look to work it wide.

They've a chance to spread it wide but Mendy is brought down about 10 metres out.
