Mark: Is there really a need for the Lions anymore? I honestly believe these lost summers are the reason why the northern hemisphere has only one World Cup success.

You're starting the tour off on a nice, positive note there, Mark! We haven't had a minute of action yet!

It is the biggest privilege to play in these games as a Lion but I feel a similar sense of pride to be able to watch it as a fan. That is the opportunity so many people have who may not be going to Australia.

For the players, the level of excitement this week couldn’t be any more through the roof. I wanted the first chance on the 2009 tour to South Africa to put a marker down and set the standards.

I think this game poses the Lions’ stiffest challenge before they get into the Test matches.

It's been 20 years since the Lions opened their account against Argentina, and they left it late to secure a 25-25 draw in Cardiff through Jonny Wilkinson's penalty.

Argentina, missing 26 first-team players, had been expected to roll over, but Jose Nunez Piossek's try and Federico Todeschini's inspired boot took them to the brink of victory.

England centre Ollie Smith answered Piossek's first-half try as the Lions reached the break 16-19 down.

But the disjointed Lions had to wait until the very last kick, and rely on Wilkinson's sixth penalty, to avoid defeat.

Will it be a similar disjointed performance this evening? Or will Andy Farrell's Lions click at the first time of asking.

Let us know what you think on #bbcrugby.

After he made a few headlines yesterday, the biggest cheer as the team was announced here in Dublin was for centre Bundee Aki.

There was a fair amount of noise made for prop Pierre Schoeman too...although that was in the form of the customary "Schooooooe".

In recent years, I've journeyed down to Aviva Stadium from Belfast for Ireland games against the All Blacks and for Six Nations Grand Slam deciders.

Maybe it's the weather, but I can't remember seeing Lansdowne Road or Shelbourne Road so full of people. It's a different level.

Bar the odd green jersey popping up - and even a few All Blacks shirts (!) - it's just red everywhere you look.

To be fair, for folk who can't afford to fork up for a trip to Australia, this is a great chance to see the Lions close to home and to enjoy a sun-drenched weekend in Dublin.

  16. 'It is a sea of red'published at 19:36 British Summer Time 20 June

British and Irish Lions v Argentina (20:00 BST)

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lions head coach Andy Farrell said: "It is for there for everyone to see who has been in town today. It is a sea of red that we have been accustomed to seeing with Lions support and they have made their voices heard."

On what he has asked of his players: "To be the best versions of themselves, the shirt demands that. This week has been a pretty normal Test week, we know the importance of the game for everyone and we are super excited to get the show on the road.

"Any team that gets to play against the Lions is an honour and Argentina are a proud nation and an incredible rugby team. They have beat the best in the world over the past 12 months and this will be a hell of a Test match."

I think the coaches will have a clear perception of what that starting XV for the Test series will look like already.

But you earn your respect by playing well on the field and that is the challenge tonight.

In one of the many traditions, Henry Pollock carries BIL, the British and Irish Lions' mascot, into the Aviva Stadium.

As the youngest member of Andy Farrell's squad, he's required to take BIL with him everywhere in Australia and take good care of him.

For British and Irish Lions boss Andy Farrell, building connections has always been as crucial to fostering a winning environment as tactics and systems.

When he speaks to the media, he regularly outlines his desire to see players become the "best versions of themselves". Not the best tacklers, or goal-kickers or scrummagers, but the best "versions".

Ask the players about Farrell and they will gush. Johnny Sexton knows him better than most. He was Ireland captain under him and is now part of his British and Irish Lions backroom team.

"It's been amazing to see already," Sexton said of watching Farrell in Lions camp.

"We're only in week one and the standard of training, the atmosphere, the environment that he's created already in terms of getting people to share ideas, whether you're a coach or player, making it really inclusive, everyone has a voice and a say."

    Tadhg BeirneImage source, Inpho

Lock Tadhg Beirne says taking on Argentina at the Aviva Stadium, while wearing the colours of the British and Irish Lions, will be another "special day" for the squad's Ireland contingent.

The 33-year-old is one of six Irish players who will be on show when the 2025 Lions squad takes the field for the first time against the Pumas.

Beirne, Bundee Aki and Finlay Bealham all start, while Tadhg Furlong, Ronan Kelleher and Mack Hansen have been named among Andy Farrell's replacements for what is the only game before the squad depart for their three-Test tour of Australia.

"For us Irish players it's extra special and means a lot to us," said Munster's Beirne.
