In 29 years time Bath fans won't remember how they won it this afternoon, the thing that matters is that they did.

Today's Bath wasn't the one which shone in all aspects for a 20-minute purple patch in their play-off victory over Bristol eight days ago, and it wasn't really the one which topped the Premiership table by 11 points over the course of the regular season.

However, they found a way, to overcome their own mistakes and perceived injustices, and held firm when it mattered in the closing stages, to finish the season as treble winners for the first time in their long history.

A seventh Premiership title, and first since 1996, is a new dynasty beginning?

As for Leicester, it's definitely the end of a chapter, with Ben Youngs, Dan Cole, Julian Montoya, Handre Pollard and Michael Cheika all now departing Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

The Tigers will be back, of course - it's Leicester - but for now they must lick their wounds.

With the Premiership title now in the bag, Bath fans can celebrate by listening to BBC Radio Somerset's podcast series entitled Rebuilding Bath Rugby.

Episode one, Rock Bottom, charts the club's journey from the top of the game to the bottom of the Premiership three season's ago.

The second instalment, A New Era, examines the arrival of Johann van Graan and an uptick in fortunes while the third episode, Resurgence, focuses on the two trophies the club have already won this season and the quest for glory this afternoon.

With the Premiership trophy heading west along the M4 and a victory parade planned for the city tomorrow,, external expect a fourth episode to drop early next week.

This afternoon's triumph for Bath completes a historic treble for the Blue, Black and Whites.

First there was the Premiership Rugby Cup, where Exeter Chiefs were dispatched in the final.

Top 14 side Lyon were then overcome in the European Challenge Cup final in Cardiff last month.

And they can celebrate again after capping their season with a first Premiership title since 1996 thanks to victory over old foes Leicester.

Long-serving Bath hooker Tom Dunn speaking to BBC Radio Bristol:

"I'm elated, I'm over the moon, I'm very grateful.

"This club and city have given me so much. I joined it as a boy and I feel that I'm definitely a man now and it's something we can give back to them, something we can give back to the fans and something we can give back to the city and something as a collective we can be proud of.

"The silverware is amazing but it's memories. Hopefully the memories I've created today inspire them [Dunn's children] to be the best they can be.

"I dreamed, definitely dreamed. I wanted it really badly but there were patches when I didn't believe it would happen but the journey we've been on in the past three years, I believed, I believed we were good enough.

"Loads of credit to Leicester, they were awesome but we did what we needed to do.

"It was very hard, I don't think we were at our best. Leicester are a very good side but we ground it out and found a way to win."

Bath scrum-half Ben Spencer speaking to BBC Sport:

"I couldn't be prouder of this group. What we've done this year - some may call it a treble, some may not - to win three trophies like we have is unbelievable. I think we are the first club in history to win three trophies in a year.

"What an effort. We had to dig deep, fair play to Leicester but I think we deserved it after the year we've had.

"When Johann came in, he completely turned this place around. We've got a really good group around him in terms of coaches, in terms of staff and we've gone from there and I think we've gone from strength to strength.

"Listen to the crowd now, what an atmosphere. These guys have stuck with us from thick and thin and this one is for them."

Leicester Tigers head coach Michael Cheika told BBC Radio Leicester:

“I’m extremely disappointed for the lads. We showed so much fight to come back. It’s sort of symbolises what we have been able to do during the year, bringing the team together and learning how to fight together - even once it goes against us.

“Today was an example of that. Wwe didn’t get any of the calls that we should have got and it cost us in the end three tries to two. What can you say?

“The calls through the game went against us, the scrum calls were incredible, honestly, and some of the foul play ones. But at the end of the day, it’s done and dusted now. It is what it is and, unfortunately, because of that it’s bitter.

“But I love this group of guys, and love the club and I’m so proud of the players for the way they came in there and stayed in it right to the end. We gave ourselves chance to win it right at the end, but unfortunately it didn’t go our way.”

Bath fly-half Finn Russell speaking to BBC Sport:

"It's not sunk in yet. Winning the Challenge Cup was brilliant but at the start of the year the goal was to win the Premiership. [It's] 10 years since I won it [a domestic title] at Glasgow in my second season there and now I've won it here second season.

"It's special. This group, the city, the club deserves it. The work we've put in over the last few years, more years than I've been here, and then what we do on the pitch is try to represent the city as best we can.

"After last year's defeat, we bounced back really quickly and we managed to get the job done."

On why he passed to Max Ojomoh for Bath's second try try rather than score himself:

"He's a kid from Bath that grew up watching his dad lifting this trophy. Giving him a little bit of limelight in the final was nice."

Unbelievable, you can see what it means to everybody.

Fair play to Leicester coming back into it. I thought they were gone, I thought in the second half Bath would turn the screw but Leicester stayed in it and made it very compelling right until the end.

It wasn't a great second half in the end for Bath and they let Leicester back in but who cares, the win is theirs and it's been a long time coming.

Bath keep their fans on tenterhooks right to the last second.

An amazing achievement, they've worked so hard for it and just like last year it came down to the last couple of minutes when Bath had the opportunity to win it. This year they've learned, I think they controlled the game for vast periods and with 20 or 30 seconds to go they just slowed it down and wound down the clock.

I would say it's fully justified because they've been the best team in the Premiership this year so you've got to say hats off to them.

It's gutting for the Leicester players because you get to the final game where it's all there, you've worked so hard all season and in some ways you wished you'd lost by 40 points because two points is an absolute killer because then you start to look at those individual moments.

But these guys can be so proud of the whole season and in a couple of weeks when they are sitting on the beach they'll look back and see the strides that they have made this season but at the moment it's going to hurt.

I'm gutted for them because if they just played with a little bit more belief in the 60 minutes before that last 20 minutes they could have won it.

They have enough talent in this team, they had enough attacking threats to really, really challenge this Bath side and I think that they gave Bath too much respect.

I didn't think they learned their lessons when they played Bath at the Rec - kicking the ball away, hold on to the ball, we saw when they hold on to the ball they built the phases, even if they are not going forward it doesn't matter, you will break down this Bath defence.

Leicester should be proud of that performance today. Bath do deserve to be champions, they've had a great season, it's been a journey for them as well. They have reached the top of the mountain and have been brilliant this season.

The Bath players are elated and some hopped over the advertising hoardings at the side of the pitch to get right up to the first row of fans in the crowd, with the trophy in hand as they enjoy a lap of honour.

They're going to be out here for a while soaking up the atmosphere as the Bath fans are showing no signs of going anywhere.

On the flipside, Leicester legend Ben Youngs is walking around the other end of the pitch with his family by his side.

He's among those leaving the club this summer who have played their final game for Leicester - and in Youngs' case the last of his career - and the Tigers fans are showing their appreciation.

Leicester Tigers captain Julian Montoya told TNT Sports:

"Of course I'm disappointed and sad about the result today, but Bath have been good all season.

"And I'll thank all the supporters for today and every day of the year. It's a massive honour to be one of the Leicester Tigers, but we are disappointed because we wanted that trophy and today we weren't good enough for moments of the game.

"In moments we were good, and we were just one kick away. Everyone wrote us off at the beginning, but we kept the fight."

Bath flanker and man of the match Guy Pepper told TNT Sports:

"It's pretty surreal, and I'm not sure it has sunk in. I'm speachless at the minute.

"The Prem to this group meant so much and the treble, I don't thinking winning in Europe and the Prem Cup would have mattered if we didn't get across the line this week. So it's a massive sigh of relief, really. I'm over the moon."

You could tell the pressure was on Bath today. They made errors that they haven't made all season but they got it done.

They weren't able to enjoy any bit of that final, were they?

Even after the whistle went, it was more relief than being happy with what they've done today but it doesn't matter. As soon as the whistle goes, you've got it done.

They've had such a good year, fully deserved winners.

Bath have shown the way this year. There's no question.

We can't sit here and say that was a vintage final by any stretch but what Bath had to do against a determined, gritty Leicester side who fought to the death and probably as we all discussed only sort of lit up the game with 20 minutes to go.

There were some tired bodies out there that couldn't quite spark up for that Leicester side to threaten the game.

Bath have been a worthy winner of this competition this year. They've been consistent week to week, they've ridden some waves.

They've had a torrid 30 years with such rugby culture going through that city. Very pleased to see them win this because they have been the best team this year.

Team photo time with the shiny new trinket... it's been 267 days since Bath began their campaign with a Friday night win over defending champions Northampton at the Rec and they have not looked back since.

They'll be having plenty of photo opportunities with the Premiership Cup and European Challenge Cup present too, you'd expect.

The playlist is booming at HQ, but interesting to note no Sweet Caroline or Freed from Desire. Actually a refreshing change after the past month of sporting finals.
