I remember playing Dave Gilbert a few years ago and beating him, but saying to him, "you need to believe in yourself".

    He has all the shots.

Does Dave believe he can turn this around? You sense he has to win the first session 3-1 at the least.

  2. Busy day in Sheffieldpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 4 May

After the late-ish finish to that morning session between Stuart Bingham and Jak Jones, the Crucible staff have had a job on emptying the arena before allowing the afternoon spectators in.

Kyren Wilson v David Gilbert match stats

    Funny game, snooker.

David Gilbert has actually amassed more points and potted more balls than Kyren Wilson - but he trails the world number 12 by four frames in their semi-final.

Lies, damn lies and statistics, as the saying goes.

It has been an incredibly evenly-matched affair, in fairness - the difference is that Wilson capitalised fully on a wobbly spell from Gilbert on Friday evening.

When I arrived at the Crucible this morning before Stuart Bingham and Jak Jones resumed, David Gilbert was already here and grabbing some fresh air outside.

Time on the practice tables is limited to 30 minutes early in the tournament but now that we are down to the last four the Englishman was clearly taking advantage of demand for those facilities dropping.

Chris Saunders: I'm becoming convinced Jak Jones is some kind of supernatural entity that hibernates every year until April, wakes up and beats everyone at the Worlds, then goes back to sleep.

Next up, for your delectation, we have the resumption of the other semi-final.

Kyren Wilson leads fellow Englishman Dave Gilbert 14-10. The Warrior needs just three more frames to reach his second Crucible final.

It's a not a brave shout to predict that this match-up will be speedier in nature.

Neither of these two hang around.

  7. Game onpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 10-13 Jones

Silly as it sounds. That is a testy moment for Jak Jones. He's shown his mental strength throughout but that Stuart Bingham ton will have him thinking.

He needs to remember how chuffed he would have been with a three-frame lead and not dwell on Bingham's fabulous finish to the session. Jones has certainly responded to every question that has been asked of him so far.

All to play for when they resume action at 19:00 BST.

Well played Stuart Bingham. He gets a tremendous roar. What a way to finish the session - he lost five frames in a row but finishes with a century break.

  9. What a way to finishpublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 10-13 Jones

Yes he can. The crowd erupt. True grit from Stuart Bingham as he makes a sublime 104.

That will give him a huge - and much-needed - boost.

Bingham acknowledges the crowd, raising his hands in celebration and milking it.

  10. Fighting til the lastpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-13 Jones

Stuart Bingham has made his first 50 break since frame 10. What a time to find some form.

He's going to get to within three frames of Jak Jones. Can he finish with a ton?

  11. A big chance for Binghampublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-13 Jones

Chance for Stuart Bingham. He's edged a few points ahead at 43-16. Five reds remain.

  12. He who dares...published at 13:41 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-13 Jones

Jak Jones is in the driving seat already. He's picking off a couple of easy reds and has gone into the pack earlier than he needed.

    That was a gamble.

The first-time Crucible semi-finalist left a difficult red to the centre pocket, but he overcooks it. Break over.

  13. The final countdownpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-13 Jones

Frame 23 gets going. The match has lasted a total of nine hours now.

This will be the final frame of the session, the officials at World Snooker Tour have confirmed.

Will Jak Jones be leading by five frames, or will the advantage be just three?

Tonight's concluding session could see 10 frames being played. Strap yourself in for that one. Could be a late one.

Five frames in a row - what a performance!

    Worrying times for Stuart now.

  15. Another one bites the dustpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-13 Jones

The brown makes a sweet sound as it goes down.

That's five frames in a row for the Welshman. Awesome concentration and bottle from the world number 44.

We should get one more frame in.

  16. Jones in charge againpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-12 Jones

Now then. An excellent pot on a black when tight on the cushion sees Jak Jones in with a great shout of clinching another frame.

He's 14 ahead as he starts the colours. Up to and including the brown are needed.

  17. It's just a matter of timepublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-12 Jones

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield

The normal rule of thumb is that a session needs to be completed around 45 minutes before the next match can get under way.

It all comes down to simple logistics of getting fans in and out of the auditorium.

With Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert set to resume at 14:30, the organisers are going to have to take a view on how things stand after this frame, which means it could be cut well short of the scheduled eight that were due to be played.

  18. 'Massive moments for Bingham'published at 13:16 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-12 Jones

    Shaun Murphy
2005 world champion on BBC Two

These are massive moments for Stuart Bingham in his quest to win a second World Championship.

If he wins this frame and the next one, he would come out of this session feeling like he's won the lottery.

The 2015 world champion has a great chance to get to within two frames. He's into his 30 in this break and in decent position to see this out.

But he's lost position and has to play safe. He's far from happy.

  19. Attritional, dull or fascinating?published at 13:10 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 9-12 Jones

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield

This is attritional stuff. or if you'd prefer let's go with tough matchplay snooker. Frames regularly over 40 minutes, with that last one getting under way almost an hour ago.

The average frame time of this match has already jumped up to over 24 minutes today.

This is a far cry from the other semi-final involving Kyren Wilson and David Gilbert, which is more like 15-16 minutes.

  20. Jones 'motivated' by social media criticismpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 4 May

World Championship semi-finalist Jak Jones says criticism on social media only “motivates” him to perform even better.

The world number 44 has beaten Zhang Anda, Si Jiahui and Judd Trump on his way to the last four but has attracted negative comments for his style of play.

Jones, who is aiming to become the first qualifier to win the world title since Shaun Murphy in 2005, said: “I am not the first person to have it, every player gets it.

“I like seeing stuff like that as much as good things. It kind of motivates me.”

The Welshman, 30, reached the quarter-finals on his Crucible debut 12 months ago and is featuring in only the second semi-final of his career.

His calm demeanour, methodical style and superb safety play has underpinned another fine run in Sheffield.
