  5. Tomova holdspublished at 13:25 BST 2 July

    *Kartal 2-2 Tomova

    Norrie 2-1 Tiafoe*

    Good leave!

Norrie holds to 15 by quickly holding his sprint and letting a long backhand whizz under his nose as it clatters out.

    We stay on serve.

    Impressive hold from Sonay Kartal.

She goes down 0-30 after missing a simple volley and hitting wide, but she sends the Bulgarian out wide with a couple of serves and wins the next four points to hold.

  9. Tiafoe holdspublished at 13:20 BST 2 July

    *Norrie 1-1 Tiafoe

This is looking like a decent start for Norrie.

Sure Tiafoe races to a 40-0 lead, but Norrie then wins two battles at the net, holding the pose after his second volleyed winner.

Tiafoe gets out of the game though with a standard serve out wide and then snappy forehand into the opposite corner.

But these two look evenly matched. So far, anyway.

Viktoriya Tomova hits a stunning forehand winner down the line to go 30-0 up.

    .

Finally we get to see some action here at Wimbledon after this morning’s rain delay, with the matches due to start more than two hours ago now beginning.

Some big players have been sent crashing out already and one of those to go was 20th seed Jelena Ostapenko, who was beaten by GB’s Sonay Kartal.

Will she continue her run and get into the second round? Her match with Viktoriya Tomova has just got under way.

  16. Sensational opening rallypublished at 13:12 BST 2 July

    *Kartal 0-0 Tomova

    What a start.

Sonay Kartal takes the opening point against Viktoriya Tomova after a mammoth rally, finishing with a thunderous forehand winner.

  17. 'Kartal is such an important role model'published at 13:08 BST 2 July

    Tomova v Kartal

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

Sonay Kartal has been brilliant [over the last 12 months], I love her story, I love her journey and I think she is such an important role model because she has done it the hard way.

She has been out there grinding in some of the smaller events with her ranking down in the 300s, looking for those ranking points to break through into bigger tournaments to earn more prize money to invest in your game.

When you look at the top of British tennis, you have Katie Boulter, Emma Raducanu, Sonay in the top 50.

To beat Jelena Ostapenko in the first round will give her so much confidence because Ostapenko is a Grand Slam champion, she is such a dangerous player.

Hopefully Sonay can continue to build on that and move her ranking higher and higher towards the top of the game.

  18. The star drawpublished at 13:03 BST 2 July

    .

Carlos Alcaraz may not be ranked world number one but he’s the star draw here, and the fact he was training on Court Seven prompted plenty of excitement from those passing by when they found out.

He was all smiles when he left the court and was cheered by the fans. He was looking in good shape despite his near five-hour first round epic.

Alcaraz is of course up against Britain’s world 733 Ollie Tarvet, who would pull off one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history if he wins.

  19. Postpublished at 13:02 BST 2 July

    Norrie v Tiafoe

Frances Tiafoe and Cameron Norrie walk out on Court One to a light smattering of applause.

Tiafoe has giant white head phones on. What do we think he's listening to?

Love Is A Losing Game by Amy Winehouse? That's the best tennis pun-related song I can come up with.

  20. Here come the playerspublished at 13:00 BST 2 July

    Tomova 0-0 Kartal

    Right, we have movement.

Sonay Kartal and Viktoriya Tomova are making their way on to court three.
