I love the applause from the crowd there because, as much as it was for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, I think we have also heard the appreciation for Sonay Kartal.

There is admiration for the level of tennis she has produced and for her efforts. She is going to be a career-high on Monday, moving back inside the world's top 50 again.

    It wasn't to be today.

  2. Play suspended againpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 6 July

Solana Sierra got just 15 minutes' notice before she had to contest her first-round match, following an injury to another player.

Since being knocked out of qualifying last week, the 21-year-old Argentine has won £240,000 in prize money. Not a bad swing in fortune.

If her run is to continue, she’s going to have to do it the hard way after losing the first set 6-3 to Laura Siegemund.

Uh oh. There’s nervous laughter in the stands as another crackle of thunder sounds close by.

The ominous dark cloud behind me might be about to have a say in what happens next. Here comes the rain again…

Sonay Kartal's defeat on Centre Court means Cameron Norrie is the last Briton standing in the singles at Wimbledon.

    Jarry 3-6 4-3 Norrie*

Mmmm, good defensive play from Nicolas Jarry but Cameron Norrie will feel that's a chance missed to get to 15-30.

Norrie's passing shot is too close to the man from Chile, who volleys it for a winner at the net.

    Another hold of serve.

It is experience coming out on top over youth at the moment on court two.

Germany's Laura Siegemund has taken the first set 6-3 in just under an hour against lucky loser Solana Sierra.

Argentinian Sierra is already the first lucky loser to reach this stage of the women's singles in Wimbledon, and she will need to turn it around against 37-year-old Siegemund in the second if she is to continue her unexpected run at SW19.

    Greg Rusedski

Nicolas Jarry is kicking himself here. He set it all up beautifully and he should've had another break point there.

This Cameron Norrie serve out wide on the outside has been the money in the big moments.

    Jonathan Jurejko
BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon

I think I just heard a guttural roar of 'Vamos!' from Cameron Norrie.

    Nicolas Jarry got the message.

Norrie means business and digs deep to hold serve from a perilous position.

The British fans respond with their own wave of encouragement for their man as he looks to strike next.

    Tracy Austin

Kartal is mentally tough but I would be wanting to make sure I am making Pavlyuchenkova play for every point.

Getting to the next stage is a huge achievement in this tournament.

The first real explosion of celebration from the Briton in this match as he eventually holds serve.

The last standing British hope in the women's singles draw, Sonay Kartal is serving to stay in this match.

Kartal fizzes a forehand down the line but it's wide. 30-30.

The Briton gets the hold and has one more chance to get level if she can break.

  15. 'Pavlyuchenkova is getting closer'published at 15:33 British Summer Time 6 July

    *Kartal 6-7 (3-7) 3-5 Pavlyuchenkova

    Naomi Cavaday
Former British tennis player on BBC TV

Kartal has not been coming out on top of the longer rallies but showed remarkable resilience in the last game.

Pavlyuchenkova can feel herself getting closer. Her movement has been impressive, something that has troubled her before. Can Kartal stay with her?

Sonay Kartal takes a deep breath after winning a lengthy rally for 0-15 but she can't back it up as Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova levels at 15-15.

Kartal sends her opponent into the corner and the return is skewed horribly wide. 15-30.

Pavlyuchenkova won just 31% of second serve points in the first set but has improved in that area, raising her level to 70% as she picks up a winner to lead 40-30.

Kartal puts long and Pavlyuchenkova is a game shy of reaching the quarter-finals.

  17. 'So much more intention from Kartal'published at 15:32 British Summer Time 6 July

    Kartal 6-7 (3-7) 3-4 Pavlyuchenkova*

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 2 and BBC Sounds

So much better. So much more intention. Sonay Kartal just looked so much more confident and assured behind her shots there. She is finding that little bit more shape that I think her coach was asking her to do.

I think she maybe even dropped a bit behind the baseline, which gave her more time to set her legs and set up the bigger swing.

    *Jarry 3-6 2-2 Norrie

Most of the points in this match have come down to whether Nicolas Jarry wins it or loses it, rather than Cameron Norrie being the person dictating points.

The Chilean has made 20 winners and 20 unforced errors. Norrie is seven and five on the same metrics.

    30-30 on Jarry's serve.

  20. 'A big hold for Kartal'published at 15:29 British Summer Time 6 July

    Kartal 6-7 (3-7) 3-4 Pavlyuchenkova*

    Naomi Cavaday
Former British tennis player on BBC TV

Pavlyuchenkova looks like she can't miss at the moment. It looks very healthy for her. She has tidied up her unforced errors.

That was a big hold Kartal. She is keeping herself up with Pavlyuchenkova and not letting her stretch away.
