British number three Cameron Norrie speaking on court about how he is performing on clay this year: "I'm getting better and better, week by week. I think it was the perfect preparation for me, playing lots of matches last week and also facing Novak [Djokovic]. It was such a high level so I felt really prepared to play.

"There has been brilliant support from my team, we have been building week by week and we are still going here.

"It was also nice for my parents to come, enjoy the match and enjoy the win. It was nice to play in front of them."

British number three Cameron Norrie on his first round win against former world number one Daniil Medvedev: "There wasn't a lot on my mind on match point. It was an incredible atmosphere. Thank you to everyone for supporting me there. I really felt like I had the momentum at the end, it was kind of similar to the first set. I just felt a lot of energy and I was able to get over the line.

"I felt that he was a little tentative but honestly it was a crazy match. He is so tough to beat, I think I deserve a diploma for beating Medvedev because he's beaten me the last four or five times. It was an unreal match."

On falling behind in the third and fourth sets: "He actually upped his level and I dropped my intensity. I wasn't able to hang with him but I was able to find some energy in that fifth set. I don't really remember too much of the final set because winning the match from being down is crazy.

"It was really nice to get past the first round. I just enjoyed it from start to finish. We both played incredible tennis and it was an amazing win for me. It was so much fun."

It's been a while since the former British number one has made headline news.

Norrie hangs tough to earn his first win over a top-20 opponent since beating Casper Ruud to reach the Australian Open last 16 in January 2024.

At the weekend, the world number 81 said he had been playing recently at a level comparable with when he was a top-10 player.

    Today he has proved it.

Wow! I think we all need to take a deep breath after that.

You can just see how proud and delighted he is with the tennis he has just produced to take out a former world number one.

His coach in the stands also has a huge smile on his face. He has earned it. He really worked his way through this match.

Daniil Medvedev is absolutely seething. He was staring down the court there at his camp after a warm exchange with Cameron Norrie.

This is unbelievable. It is exactly the same scenario as the first set, which Daniil Medvedev ended up losing, where the underarm serve has got under his skin and he is completely capitulating and evaporating with confidence.

Well played Cameron Norrie, he is just gritting and fighting again. He is finding a way to get back into the match - it is more psychological than anything to be honest.

Medvedev must be absolutely fuming once again.
