Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev met at Wimbledon earlier this year in a match that led to rumours of discontent between the two camps.

Fritz's girlfriend Morgan Riddle - the social media influencer - published two posts on Instagram which were taken by many to be a reference to the domestic abuse allegations against Zverev, which were discontinued earlier this year.

Riddle later suggested there had been a "misunderstanding" and the situation had been "blown out of proportion" by the media.

Fritz came from two sets down to beat Zverev and the pair were in lengthy conversation at the net after the final point.

Afterwards Zverev said: "His team is extremely respectful. I think his coach, his physio, also his second coach, they're extremely respectful.

"There's some other people that maybe are in the box that are not maybe from the tennis world, that are not maybe from particularly watching every single match. They were a bit over the top."

American Taylor Fritz, who meets Alexander Zverev next, beat Casper Ruud in four sets to make it to a second successive home quarter-final.

Fritz is aiming to be the first American male winner of the tournament since 2003 but has lost all four of his previous Grand Slam matches at this stage.

“In the past, I’ve been very, very excited, to make quarter-finals at Slams," Fritz said.

"I’m at the point now where I’m still happy to make them but I wouldn’t be happy with it ending here.

"I am at the point where I really want more than that.”

"I've played both of them a couple of times. They are great players, I think we will have a great battle. But I'll be up for the challenge of either of them.

"Both big servers, big hitters and I think they will come aggressively at me whichever one it is but yeah I'll be ready."

  5. 'Crazy to be moving on to the semi-finals'published at 18:38 British Summer Time 3 September

    Badosa 2-6 5-7 Navarro

American Emma Navarro speaking after reaching her first Grand Slam semi-final against Paula Badosa: "After I got it back to 5-2, I had a bit of an inkling that it might be two sets. I just wanted to stay really tough and stick in there and even if I did lose the second set, I wanted to set the tone for the third set. Just really happy with my performance today. Crazy to be moving on to the semi-finals. US Open baby!

On how she had an inkling that the match would be over in two sets: "I always say I can't see the future but maybe today I could a little bit, I just felt like I might be able to win this in two sets."

On reaching the US Open semi-final: "It means so much to me. My coach and I have been together since I was 14 or 15 so it's been eight years now. We've done a lot of great work together. Thank you for everything you do, all your dedication and the time you put into this journey and making me into the player that I am.

"I also want to thank my dad because he saw a vision from when I was really young. He knew maybe I was a little bit ADHD or something to be sat in a classroom or in a 9-5 and I think he saw something in me from a young age. Thanks Dad for sending me on this journey."

American Emma Navarro is into the semi-finals of the US Open.

In a remarkable second set, Badosa led 5-1, with a double break and twice was serving to take it into a deciding set.

But the Badosa game crumbled, with her not winning another game. Navarro won six games on the bounce and is the winner.

Paula Badosa is doing all she can not to swear and throw her racket.

You can see the way she is pursing her lips, she is completely beside herself.

Emma Navarro is firmly in charge here. The momentum has shifted. It's not looking too good for Badosa.

Emma Navarro needs to mix it up and slow it down a little bit, make her think a little bit more.

She needs to stay even for as long as she can in this set otherwise Paula Badosa's power could become a huge factor.

It's so close and it is such a momentum match.

Emma Navarro is giving Paula Badosa too much space.

Sheer power from Badosa coming through with the backhand.

She is just pushing Navarro back deeper and deeper into the court to the point where there is no pace on the ball by the time it gets to Badosa.

You have to think Badosa is going to finish up this second set and we are going to go into a grinding third set.
