    With the odds stacked against Cameron Norrie when he faces arguably the greatest men's player of all time, Jack Draper getting off to a winning start feels vital.

    After travelling with the Davis Cup squad to Colombia in February, Draper made his playing debut - and a winning one - in Manchester in September.

    But today there is even more pressure on the 21-year-old to deliver - and he says he is ready to thrive.

    "Playing tennis and putting yourself on the line one-to-one is always tough mentally - there is no excuses, you have to go out there and deliver," he told BBC Sport.

    "Because I've been around these guts they make me feel so comfortable, and being on tour over the last couple for years, I think I've grown a lot in myself and able to handle big situations and anxiety.

    "I am ready to play. And I think the pressure will be a privilege. I want to be a top player and you have to be able to deal with that and the situation."

    Based on form and ranking, most of us British journalists expected Laslo Djere to play for Serbia in the first singles match.

    One of the Serb reporters I know says he is also slightly surprised Miomir Kecmanovic has been picked to face Jack Draper.

    But the chat from the Serbian camp is Kecmanovic, who is also ranked below Dusan Lajovic, has been looking hot in practice since the team arrived in Malaga.

    Another theory is the court speed here may benefit him.

    So Italy became the third team to secure their semi-final place with the action in Malaga beginning earlier this week and the other semi-final line-up already decided.

    On Tuesday, Finland came from behind to beat defending champions Canada 2-1.

    Milos Raonic, making his first Davis Cup appearance in five years, had put the Canadians ahead with a 6-3 7-5 victory over Patrick Kaukovalta.

    But Otto Virtanen levelled for Finland by beating Gabriel Diallo 6-4 7-5 and he and Harri Heliovaara then defeated Alexis Galarneau and Vasek Pospisil in the deciding doubles.

    The Finns won 7-5 6-3 to book a semi-final spot for the first time in the nation's history.

    Facing them on Friday for a place in Sunday's final will be Australia, who fought back to beat the Czech Republic 2-1.

    Tomas Machac beat Jordan Thompson 6-4 7-5 to give the Czechs an early lead over last year's runners-up.

    However, world number 12 Alex de Minaur came from a set and a break down to beat Jiri Lehecka 4-6 7-6 (7-2) 7-5 and send the tie to the deciding doubles.

    Wimbledon 2022 doubles champions Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell then beat Lehecka and Adam Pavlasek 6-4 7-5.

    There are so many Brits knocking around the Costa del Sol that some parts are known as 'Little Britain'.

    Around 60,000 expats are estimated to live or have holiday homes in the area, with thousands more flying out here annually.

    The flights out over the past few days have been packed with tennis fans and many British tennis fans have been easy to spot around the city.

    That means Leon Smith and the lads are expected to be supported by about 5,000 British fans in a near sell-out crowd at the 11,300-capacity Palacio de Deportes Martin Carpena.

    It has been another extraordinary season for 24-time Grand Slam singles champion Novak Djokovic.

    The 36-year-old Serb won three majors and lost in the Wimbledon final but said Great Britain are "one of the greatest tennis nations out there".

    "It is a very strong team in this format. It's difficult for them to choose who to put on the court," the world number one said.

    Despite being in the twilight of his career, Djokovic's powers are showing little sign of diminishing as he continues to dominate the men's game.

    On Sunday, the world number one further underlined his superiority by rounding off the tour season with a record seventh title at the ATP Finals in Turin.

    Now Djokovic is targeting another trophy with Serbia, who he helped win the Davis Cup for the first and only time in 2010.

    "It is an important week for us, for our nation. We'll do our best," Djokovic said.

    "As I said at the beginning of the season, the Davis Cup has been - and is - one of my greatest goals of this season.

    "Hopefully, I will be able to contribute to a win."

    This is a passenger announcement: the Davis Cup has landed in Malaga.

    For those arriving this week at Spain's fourth-busiest airport - the gateway to the Costa del Sol for millions of tourists each year - it is soon apparent there is an important sporting event in town.

    As soon as you walk into the arrivals hall there is a striking Davis Cup stall which is welcoming visitors and offering any information those going to the tennis need.

    And maybe it will also serve to help flog a few more tickets on the days which are not sold out.

    Great Britain captain Leon Smith says he can "shout loud and proud" about his team's strength as they look to beat Serbia.

    Without injured pair Dan Evans and Andy Murray, Britain's team includes Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and doubles specialists Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury.

    "It's been a blow losing important players but we've also got unbelievable players," Smith said.

    "One of the upsides is there is no ambiguity about the team selection, there is no second guessing.

    "We know the team and it takes out the anxiety. Everyone is relaxed, focused and we use that to our advantage."

    Great Britain, who last won the trophy in 2015, reached the Davis Cup knockout stages with a thrilling victory over France in September.

    So... the team picks are in.

    Britain, as we knew, will start with Jack Draper. But he will play against Miomir Kecmanovic and not Laslo Djere as we expected.

    Kecmanovic is ranked five places above Draper at 55th in the world, but has lost his past four matches.

    Draper won their only previous meeting on the Lyon clay earlier this year.

    The second singles match sees Cameron Norrie plays some fella called Novak Djokovic.

    And if we need the deciding doubles, Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury will face Djokovic and Dusan Lajovic.

    So, Thursday's other quarter-final between Italy and the Netherlands determined who Great Britain or Serbia will face in Saturday's semi-final and it was Italy who held their nerve in the deciding doubles match.

    Dutch player Botic Van De Zandschulp beat Italy's Matteo Arnaldi 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 7-6 (9-7) in the opening match before world number four Jannik Sinner beat Talon Griekspoor 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 to level things up.

    In the deciding doubles match, Sinner and partner Lorenzo Sonego beat Griekspoor and partner Wesley Koolhof 6-3 6-4 to secure their place in the last-four.

    To say Malaga is awash with Davis Cup 'fever' would be stretching it, particularly because the host nation aren't even playing here.

    Nevertheless, there is a eye-catching presence across the Andalusian city which has done the trick of ensuring the locals take note.

    The host at my short-term let said she wasn't a tennis fan per se, and thought Spain were playing.

    But she is well aware of the Davis Cup because she is a beneficiary - like thousands of other room renters, restaurant owners and bar tenders - of an extra influx of tourists piling into the city during the calmer winter months.

    Close to the city’s famous Alcazaba - a beautiful, medieval Moorish fortress overlooking the city - is a Davis Cup oversized tennis ball where fans can take a photo.

    And next to the port - a redeveloped urban oasis packed with bars and restaurants - is a pop-up store enticing passers-by into buying tickets and merch.
