    Mirra Andreeva is safely through to the second round after a comfortable straight sets 6-3 6-3 win over Egypt's Mayar Sherif. The seventh seed needed just one hour and 20 minutes to wrap up the victory.

    Iga Swiatek wasted no time out on court two, opening her Wimbledon bid with a convincing 7-5 6-1 win over Polina Kudermetova. It was the Pole's 61st consecutive win in an opening match of a tournament - the longest streak of any woman this century.

    The second round also awaits 21st seed Tomas Machac, who completed a straight sets 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina's Damir Dzumhur on court 15.

    Elsewhere, 15th seed Jakub Mensik has opened up a comfortable one-set advantage against France's Hugo Gaston. The pair are well into the second set on court 18 now, with things all square at 3-3.

    "I wish we could have played a little longer" - Petra Kvitova is given the honour of speaking despite losing and the crowd stay on their feet.

    She thanks all her family and her coaches - pointing out she started with her dad and ended with her husband.

    She says Wimbledon has held the "best memories" for her - she's won the title twice, got engaged here and her son was born during the championships last year.

    She asks to have a moment to say something in Czech, saying she will never be able to thank them enough.

    She says she will miss 'Wimby' as she calls it and tennis and the fans.

    Judging by the cheers and the odd tissue that comes out, they will miss her too.

    Retiring Petra Kvitova speaks on court after her Wimbledon career comes to an end with defeat by Emma Navarro: "Thank you for the atmosphere, it was wonderful to play on this beautiful court. Congrats Emma. I wish we could have played for a bit longer. I never dreamed of winning Wimbledon and I did it twice so this is something very special.

    "I will miss Wimbledon, I will miss tennis, I will miss you fans but I am ready for the next chapter of life as well. I can't wait to be back as a member. Thanks to the people who helped me to improve as a player and a person.

    "I didn't have many tennis coaches in my career but my first one was my dad and he is here today. My last one is my husband so I want to thank them all and the people in my box.

    Petra Kvitova's Wmbledon career is over.

    The two-time winner crashes out to 10th seed Emma Navarro, and does so with a double fault.

    But the American is quick to give up the floor to the former world number two, who soaks up the applause from the crowd on her final appearance at SW19.

    She was far from her best today but the Czech still showed fleeting moments of what made her a winner at Wimbledon in the past.
