Dan Evans is very fired up.

He uttered "come on Evo" to himself a couple of times during the last few games of that second set and then let out a huge "Come on!" after nailing the break.

It was cat and mouse in a tight second set but that break proved crucial and Evans is a set away from round two.

Loffhagen is broken for the third time as Martinez moves in front again.

  9. Postpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Evans 6-1 6-5 Clarke

Jay Clarke had a word with the umpire at the change of ends. It wasn't entirely clear what the conversation was about but it seemed to hang on Dan Evans taking a bit too long between points.

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard blinks first as Taylor Fritz books his place in the second round!

It was difficult to see where a breakthrough was going to come from but Perricard gave Fritz three match points with the help of two unforced errors.

The American makes no mistake on the first time of asking to book his place in the next round.

    Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 6-1 Eala

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC TV

Alexandra Eala is a fantastic young talent but it wasn't to be.

She came out of the blocks firing but in the end the defending champion Barbora Krejoikova drew on all of her experience and perhaps had more in the tank.

Eala's legs looked a little heavy but she will come back stronger, I have no doubt about it.

  16. Krejcikova through after early scarepublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 1 July

    Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 6-1 Eala

Considering the trouble she had at times, it's surprising to look at the match statistics and see Barbora Krejcikova got 68% of her first serves in. Six double faults is a number she will want to reduce in her future matches, though.

In her on-court interview with Lee McKenzie, she talks about her injury troubles of the past few months and how special she has found it to return as the defending Wimbledon champion.

  17. Fritz holdspublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 4-5 Taylor Fritz

It's another solid game on serve for Taylor Fritz, who doesn't give Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard a sniff of an opportunity to break.

One of these two will have to blink at some point, but who?

  18. Evans holdspublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 1 July

    Evans 6-1 5-5 Clarke*

Dan Evans keeps it on serve with his second successive hold to love.

Neither player has dropped a point in each of their past two services games.

  19. Perricard holdspublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 1 July

    Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 4-4 Taylor Fritz*

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard hits three aces to easily keep hold.

His last - which topped out at 139mph - was his 37th of the match so far.

  20. game, set and match

Game, set and match - Krejcikovapublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 1 July

    Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 6-1 Eala

Defending women's champion Barbora Krejcikova lets out a huge roar as she overcomes a really stern test from highly-rated 20-year-old Alexandra Eala to reach the second round at Wimbledon.

She was not at her best by any means, but Krejcikova took control of the match after dropping the opening set.

I'm sure we'll be seeing Eala again on this stage in future - one to watch in the coming years.
