British wildcard Jodie Burrage loses the opening set against American Caty McNally.

McNally opens up a 40-15 advantage but follows it up with a double fault.

However, her next shot is too powerful for Burrage and her return goes long.

Former British number one on BBC TV

You suspect that if the defending champion Barbora Krejcikova had more matches coming in here, she would have been more clinical in the key moments.

  5. Evans holdspublished at 15:46 British Summer Time

    Evans 6-1 4-4 Clarke*

Dan Evans earns his most comfortable hold of serve for a while.

A tap of appreciation of the racquet from Alexandra Eala as Barbora Krejcikova crafts a wonderful passing winner to bring up break point...

And the defending champion now has a double break that should surely see her through.

  7. Perricard holdspublished at 15:45 British Summer Time

    Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 3-3 Taylor Fritz*

It wasn't quite yesterday's record-breaker, but Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard just sent a 146mph serve fizzing past Taylor Fritz.

It was one of two aces in that service game - aided by the help of new balls - as Perricard holds with ease.

  8. Burrage trails in first setpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time

    *McNally 5-3 Burrage

There were plenty of Brits in action yesterday and an equal amount are taking to the court today.

Jodie Burrage is currently in action against Caty McNally on court 18.

Things aren't going swimmingly well over there though because the American is just one game away from wrapping up this first set inside the 30-minute mark.

McNally is serving for the set and looking to get a firm hold in this first round match.

  9. Fritz holdspublished at 15:42 British Summer Time

    *Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 2-3 Taylor Fritz

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard misses a sniff of an opportunity as Taylor Fritz regains control.

That was a lengthy game at just over five minutes, which is some going for two players that have been so dominant on serve in this match.

The Frenchman, on Fritz's advantage, sends a return crashing into the back fence.

  10. Clarke holdspublished at 15:41 British Summer Time

    *Evans 6-1 3-4 Clarke

Jay Clarke has pulled out some really special shots in the second set. Clarke is under pressure at the net when Dan Evans tries a passing shot but he stretches to return a winner.

Clarke gets the hold to love with a forehand down the line.

It feels like it has been a bit laboured for her today and emotionally it has taken a lot out of her.

She got off to a fast start but she is running out of gas, emotion and energy. The experience of Krejcikova is counting for an awful lot.

She does not have the same energy as when she walked onto the court.

  12. Krejcikova holdspublished at 15:40 British Summer Time

    Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 4-1 Eala*

It's been a bit of a mixed bag from Barbora Krejcikova today, and Alexandra Eala is keeping her honest with some quality groundstrokes at times, but the defending champion wraps up another hold of serve and is closing in on a place in the second round.

  13. Deucepublished at 15:39 British Summer Time

    Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 2-2 Taylor Fritz*

After four dominant service games in this fifth set, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard wins three points in a row to take the fifth game to deuce.

    Could this be an opening?

  14. Postpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time

    *Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 3-1 Eala

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

Barbora Krejoikova is really understanding the importance of this game.

She's such a multi-layered player, she's so thoughtful and skilful, and she's wonderful to watch.

  15. Evans holdspublished at 15:38 British Summer Time

    Evans 6-1 3-3 Clarke*

Dan Evans shows composure to come through a 25-shot rally - the longest of the match - and earn advantage.

Another lengthy rally also falls in Evans' favour to get the hold.

  16. Second deucepublished at 15:36 British Summer Time

    *Evans 6-1 2-3 Clarke

Jay Clarke digs in again to bring it back to second deuce.

  17. Perricard holdspublished at 15:35 British Summer Time

    Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 2-2 Taylor Fritz*

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard brings the calm with the thunder.

The Frenchaman follows up three thumping opening serves with soft returns to breeze into a 40-0 lead.

After a brilliant line winner from Taylor Fritz, the American nets to keep the fifth set on serve.

  18. Eala holdspublished at 15:35 British Summer Time

    *Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 3-1 Eala

On TV commentary, Anne Keothavong ponders if Alexandra Eala is running out of steam a little bit. She made it all the way to the final at Eastbourne last week and temperatures are extremely high at Wimbledon again today.

But then at break point down, she produces a brilliant cross-court backhand that takes us to deuce and Eala - currently at a career-high 56th in the world rankings - wraps up a lengthy service hold.

  19. Deucepublished at 15:34 British Summer Time

    *Evans 6-1 2-3 Clarke

Lovely stuff from Jay Clarke as he puts a huge amount of top spin on his forehand and it skips off awkwardly and away from Dan Evans for deuce.

  20. Game and third set - Martinezpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time

    Martinez 2-6 6-2 6-4 Loffhagen

Pedro Martinez claims the third set!

The Spaniard opens up a 40-0 lead to give himself two set points, George Loffhagen manages to pull things back to 40-30, but another backhand into the net seals things.

There is a roar from Martinez, but Loffhagen has his head down. He will be kicking himself after doing all the hard work at the beginning of the set.
