The American twice sends Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard out wide with his serves, easing to a 40-0 lead.

She plays Polina Kudermetova in her opening match.

  3. Evans breaks back in second setpublished at 15:30 BST 1 July

    *Evans 6-1 2-3 Clarke

    Dan Evans takes it.

An overhead volley does the trick.

Evans lets out a roar in the direction of his coach and then continues to celebrate as he takes a seat at the change of ends.

It means a lot to the British number five.

  4. Perricard holdspublished at 15:29 BST 1 July

  7. Martinez holds and breakspublished at 15:27 BST 1 July

    *Martinez 2-6 6-2 5-4 Loffhagen

Who is going to blink first here? The answer: George Loffhagen.

Pedro Martinez does his bit by clinging on to his service game, after a bit of a tussle at deuce, by drawing a backhand error from George Loffhagen.

But then George Loffhagen hands two break points to the Spaniard and practically gifts him the break with a wild forehand.

Frustrating times for the British wildcard.

    .

Heather Watson went out on court 12 earlier but we will see a British winner here, with Dan Evans currently looking the most likely to progress against compatriot Jay Clarke.

Both have plenty of support in the stands, meaning each point is cheered loudly, regardless who gets it.

Evans breezed through the first set but Clarke is battling now.

  9. Fritz holdspublished at 15:26 BST 1 July

    *Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-7 (6-8) 0-1 Taylor Fritz

Superb opening service game in this fifth and deciding set from Taylor Fritz.

He gives Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard a taste of his own medicine with two aces to hold.

  10. Krejcikova saves break point to holdpublished at 15:25 BST 1 July

    Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 3-0 Eala*

Barbora Krejcikova finds some trouble in her next service game, but a couple of big serves from 30-40 onwards get her to the brink of a 3-0 lead.

Alexandra Eala proves she shouldn't be discounted yet with a winner that clips the line to bring it back to deuce, but the Czech player eventually wraps up the game.

  11. Clarke breaks in second setpublished at 15:24 BST 1 July

    Evans 6-1 1-3 Clarke*

A big serve from Dan Evans saves the first.

  14. Postpublished at 15:20 BST 1 July

    *Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 2-0 Eala

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

To put this into context this is only Alexandra Eala's 16th match on this surface at tour level and above, she has very little experience but look what she has done already.

  15. Clarke holdspublished at 15:20 BST 1 July

    *Evans 6-1 1-2 Clarke

Jay Clarke battles to the hold.

Those are the types of games he was folding in during the opening set.

It might not be as straightforward for Dan Evans going forward.

  16. Krejcikova breaks in deciding setpublished at 15:19 BST 1 July

    *Krejcikova 3-6 6-2 2-0 Eala

An Alexandra Eala forehand sails long - two break points for Barbora Krejcikova...

And the number 17 seed gets it done on the second of them, as Eala can only send a forehand volley at the net wide.

Potentially a big moment in favour of the defending champion, who looks a lot more comfortable now.

  17. Third deucepublished at 15:18 BST 1 July

    Evans 6-1 1-1 Clarke*

Jay Clarke comes out on top in the longest rally of the match - 17 shots - to save break point.

Italian world number one Jannik Sinner speaking after beating compatriot Luca Nardi: "I am very very happy to come back here, it's a special place for me and playing against an Italian is very unfortunate for us but one has to go through so I'm happy that it's me. The atmosphere is amazing actually so thank you for coming out.

"I know it is very, very hot and humid. I don't remember the last time when there was this weather in London so thank you so much.

On his serve: "We worked a lot after Halle today on the serve. I felt like I was serving very well in the beginning. I tried to step up and hit through the ball and I'm very happy with how I ended the match. First matches are never easy so I am very happy about my performance and also the serving today.

On moving on from Roland Garros: "New tournament, new chances, new challenges, you have one opponent at a time so obviously I try to keep going and enjoy playing here. If you don't enjoy to play on this courts, I don't know where you will enjoy. Very happy to be here and let's see what is coming."

  19. Martinez and Loffhagen holdpublished at 15:17 BST 1 July

    Martinez 2-6 6-2 3-4 Loffhagen*

Pedro Martinez is still hanging in there. The Spaniard claims another service hold to love to keep draw things level once more in this third set at 3-3.

A few unforced errors are creeping in to George Loffhagen's game at the minute, but he also manages to hold his serve with yet another cross-court forehand winner at 40-30.

There is absolutely no weakness in the British wildcard's forehand.

  20. Break point Evanspublished at 15:16 BST 1 July

    Evans 6-1 1-1 Clarke*

Dan Evans has given himself a talking to and it works.
