So far, so good for Aryna Sabalenka - she's taken complete control of this first set already.

The three-time Grand Slam champion is quickly up 0-30 before a slightly too casual forehand hits the net.

Carson Branstine then fires down a 119mph ace to make it 30-30 but that's as good as it gets for the Canadian.

Sabalenka attacks a second serve to bring up break point and it's taken when Branstine's forehand sails long.

  2. Fery a break uppublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Popyrin 4-5 Fery

It is going well so far for wildcard Arthur Fery on Court 15.

The Brit is a break up on 20th seed Australian Alexei Popyrin in the first set.

After the change of ends, Fery will be serving for the opening set.

The world number 719 is the second British player to win on day one, following Sonay Kartal's earlier victory over Jelena Ostapenko in the women's draw.

All eyes now on Centre Court as debutant Tarvet waits to discover his second-round opponent. Will it be Carlos Alcaraz?

  4. 'By far one of the toughest matches I've played'published at 13:19 British Summer Time 30 June

    Kartal 7-5 2-6 6-2 Ostapenko

British number three Sonay Kartal speaking on court three after her first round win: "That was by far one of the toughest matches I've played. I would say that I struggle against the big hitters, so getting that win today after her beating me last week was great. I appreciate all of you guys coming out. You guys were there when I needed you the most.

"I've made a conscious effort this year to play the bigger matches and put myself under the most pressure out on court. I knew that I wouldn't get the results straightaway but that it would eventually pay off, and that's what happened today."

On her run at Wimbledon last year: "It was probably one of the best tournaments I've ever had and my most favourite. I left here last year feeling a much more confident player, on and off the court. I knew my level was there but I had to force it out of myself.

"Throughout this whole year, I've felt I'm playing better and improving each week so I want to see how far I can go."

  5. Tarvet serving for matchpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 30 June

    Sabalenka 3-0 Branstine*

Again, Carson Branstine goes up 15-30 on the Aryna Sabalenka serve.

But again, the world number one comes through.

A superb passing shot down the line brings up game point and the Belarusian takes it when Branstine's volley finds the net.

  7. GB's Crawford holdspublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Bellucci 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 4-3 Crawford

As we approach two hours on court 16, Oliver Crawford holds to 15 on his service game.

Mattia Bellucci's backhand goes long on two occasions and Crawford pumps his fist as he stays within touching distance of his opponent.

  8. Sabalenka breakspublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Sabalenka 2-0 Branstine

Just the start the top seed would have wanted.

Aryna Sabalenka breaks at the earliest opportunity. She quickly goes up 0-40 on Carson Branstine's serve before the Canadian saves the first break point.

Branstine plays the second nicely as well but then hammers the ball into the net with the court at her mercy having advanced.

  9. Tarvet one game from victorypublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 30 June

    Tarvet 6-4 6-4 5-3 Riedi*

No sign of any nerves from Oliver Tarvet as he moves one step closer to the second round on his Wimbledon debut.

A potential tie with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz - providing the Spaniard wins his first-round match, of course - awaits Tarvet if he can see it out from here...

We've just heard from Ons Jabeur, who didn't do a news conference and left with a doctor after her retirement.

"I wasn’t expecting not to feel good," she said. "I have been practising pretty well the last few days but I guess these things happen.

"I’m pretty sad, it really doesn’t really help with my confidence and what I keep pushing myself to do even though it was a very tough season for me,

"I hope I can feel better and see what is going to happen."

She added that she would now just "try to disconnect a little bit from tennis" and spend some time recovering and with her family.

"Hopefully that could recharge me," she said. "I will definitely try to rest is the word for it."

It is so great to see her improvement.

Former British number one on BBC Two

Sonay Kartal has to remember that she doesn't need to rush things here.

She doesn't need to hit winners, she just needs to stay in the points because Jelena Ostapenko doesn't look like she wants to work that hard.

She doesn't need to play any differently, she just needs to stick in there.

  18. GB's Crawford holdspublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 30 June

    *Bellucci 6-7 (2-7) 6-3 2-1 Crawford

Oliver Crawford took a lengthy bathroom break – over eight minutes - after losing the second set and his opponent Mattia Bellucci was clearly unimpressed.

He seals an early break point in the opening game of the third set as Crawford starts to struggle to contain his powerful hitting.

However, Crawford gets on the board in the third game after Bellucci goes long and that will give him a much-needed boost.

  19. GB's Fery starts against Popyrinpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 30 June

    Popyrin 2-1 Fery*

Another of the British players in action on day one - world number 461 Arthur Fery - has just got his first-round match against 20th seed Alexei Popyrin under way on court 15.

Wildcard Fery, 22, has lost in the first round in each of his previous two main-draw appearances at Wimbledon.

Fery took the Australian to deuce in his second service game, but Popyrin holds and it's on serve early doors.
