Nicolas Jarry has never made it beyond the third round at Wimbledon before. Currently ranked 143 in the world, he got through three qualifying matches to make the main draw and then knocked out eighth seed Holger Rune in round one.

Two confident service holds nudge him narrowly in front in the fourth set.

    Much better from Jan-Lennard Struff.

He's finding his rhythm now and it's much harder for Carlos Alcaraz.

    The German holds to 15.

We can continue to try to paint a picture as to how Jan-Lennard Struff can have an impact, but at the end of the day it is just a gulf in class.

Carlos Alcaraz has the answers in virtually all categories.

    *Alcaraz 6-1 2-1 Struff

Tough going for Jan-Lennard Struff, who is struggling to find the answers when either on serve or facing Carlos Alcaraz's.

The 35-year-old has never made it into the second week at Wimbledon and that record does not look like changing today.

  7. Game and third set - Fonsecapublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 4 July

    *Jarry 6-3 6-4 3-6 0-0 Fonseca

Joao Fonseca is the first male player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam on multiple occasions prior to turning 19 since Carlos Alcaraz, who did it three times before his 19th birthday.

He is also aiming to become the youngest male player to reach the last 16 at a Grand Slam since Alcaraz got to the US Open quarter-finals in 2021.

That hope remains a live one for the Brazilian as he wraps up set three against Chile's Nicolas Jarry with the minimum of fuss.

    *Alcaraz 6-1 2-1 Struff

Sumptuous stuff from Carlos Alcaraz, who begins the break with a beautiful passing forehand with Jan-Lennard Struff at the net.

The German is making too many unforced errors at this moment in time to stay in games.

He mixed it up in that game, looking to serve and volley on a couple of occasions.

    .

Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t look like he has any desire to hang around on Centre Court by whizzing through that first set in under half an hour.

There were some mistakes in there but even so the world number two simply had too much for his opponent.

  12. Fonseca on brink of winning third setpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 4 July

    *Jarry 6-3 6-4 2-5 Fonseca

Nicolas Jarry is wearing one of those nasal strips that are supposed to help you breathe easier. Like Robbie Fowler did in the 90s.

Joao Fonseca is looking pretty solid on serve right now and a wide backhand from Jarry puts the teenager into a 5-2 lead.

    Alcaraz 6-1 0-0 Struff*

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC Two

Carlos Alcaraz's success at the net is very much to do with the approach shot as well. When he is coming in off his big forehand, it is setting up some pretty routine volleys.

He certainly has the technique and capability to volley well. He has got a great feel, whether it is with the drop shot or drop volley.

There are plenty of shots in his repertoire.

  14. 'Struff's serving not going to cut the mustard'published at 17:48 British Summer Time 4 July

    Alcaraz 6-1 0-0 Struff*

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC Two

I think Jan-Lennard Struff needs to forget about that set pretty quickly.

35% first serves is not going to cut the mustard. He has to focus on putting out a strong service game in this first game of the second set to really establish himself in this match.

He has only won 15 points so far, but it is just one set and this is a best of five set match which gives you the chance to turn things around.

    Alcaraz 6-1 0-0 Struff*

Jan-Lennard Struff won just 15 points in that first set.

He'll need to improve his first serve percentage to improve that in this second set.

    Alcaraz 6-1 Struff*

Well, that didn't take long did it?

Carlos Alcaraz wraps up the first set in under 28 minutes. He didn't need to be remotely close to his best there, either.

    Ominous for Jan-Lennard Struff.

  17. Fonseca breakspublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 4 July

    Jarry 6-3 6-4 1-3 Fonseca*

Joao Fonseca breaks Nicolas Jarry's serve for the first time in this match!

Jarry double-faults on break point and those supporting the Brazilian teenager on court two are just getting that little bit louder.

  18. Double break Alcarazpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 4 July

    *Alcaraz 5-1 Struff

Jan-Lennard Struff is trying to take on Carlos Alcaraz at his own game from the baseline - and there will only be one winner there.

The Spaniard gets the double break and he'll serve to take the first set.

Norrie had already gone one better than British number one Jack Draper by reaching the third round but he keeps British interest in the men's singles draw alive with that victory.

It's only the second time in his career he's reached the fourth round and what an ovation he receives from the crowd.

  20. 'Relief for Cam Norrie'published at 17:36 British Summer Time 4 July

A sense of relief for Cam Norrie. It has been rocky, difficult and stressful for all of us. It is never easy being the favourite on your own ground.

Today, he was the most experienced player and once again the pivotal moments were in the first two sets. It is great that he is having more composure.
