    Fritz 2-0 Davidovich Fokina*

Taylor Fritz needed five sets to get through both of his first two matches and had been on court for more than six and a half hours before opening up the action on Centre Court today against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The early signs are it'll be another long day at the office for the American fifth seed.

Fritz broke Spanish 26th seed Davidovich Fokina at the fourth time of asking in the opening game of the match, and then held serve in a marathon second game in which he saved four break points.

Former British number one on BBC TV

Kartal is showing what she is capable of, much better quality striking from her. In the first five games, she wasn't finding the depth that she is now.

She has done a much better job keeping Parry behind the baseline.

The epitomy of tennis right there. Diane Parry was looking like she was having a comfortable afternoon in the sun but suddenly the momentum has swung Sonay Kartal's way - there's an extra bounce in her movement and more confidence in her decision making with her shots. She dug in deep to get over the line after Parry battled back to deuce and she's very much back in this.

Kartal got the break points she so badly wanted. Such good foot speed from the Brit but she couldn't quite control her first break point.

These two are going toe-to-toe, it's huge entertainment for the crowd. There is a real buzz after that game.

This is seriously good stuff from both players.

Sonay Kartal comes out on top after an 18-shot rally - the longest of the match - before Diane Parry hits a fizzing forehand return back down the line on the Brit's serve.

  17. 'Parry making life difficult'published at 13:33 British Summer Time 4 July

    Parry 4-1 Kartal*

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC TV

Parry is not making life easy at the moment. She is hitting her spots on serve. She needs to not let herself get too confident on serve and allow a lapse in concentration.

Sonay Kartal has got to find her depth.

  18. Parry holdspublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 4 July

    Parry 4-1 Kartal*

Sonay Kartal shouldn't feel too downbeat - there's not much you can do with Diane Parry in this form.

The Frenchwoman's forehand has been supreme so far and she just hit another stunning winner in that game.

It's a commanding lead for the former world number 48.

  19. 'An early test for Kartal'published at 13:32 British Summer Time 4 July

    *Parry 2-0 Kartal

    Alison Mitchell
    Tennis commentator on BBC TV

Just as we were applauding the aces, Kartal undoes all of her hard work. She spoils it with a double fault and will be disappointed with her following miss.

Parry has such good court awareness, she is very technically sound.

  20. 'Kartal has work to do'published at 13:29 British Summer Time 4 July

    *Parry 3-1 Kartal

Kartal has it all to do in the opening set.

Athletic work from Parry. There will be some relief for Kartal to get out of this service game; Parry is proving dangerous when she is able to come to the net.
