The Dutch pair are going to take some beating. Susan Lamens has now won 13 matches in a row in Billie Jean King Cup - and the Indian Wells champion Demi Schuurs has not lost a match for her country since 2022.

One team will play in September’s finals. The other in a relegation play off tie in November.

Doubles specialist Olivia Nicholls and Harriet Dart have been dropped for the doubles and replaced by Katie Boulter and Jodie Burrage.

Nicholls and Dart were beaten soundly by their German opponents yesterday, and with qualification for the finals on the line, captain Anne Keothavong has decided to throw her number 1 singles player straight back into action.

    Boulter 4-6 3-6 Lamens

It took Suzan Lamens just one hour and 21 minutes to get the job done there.

It looked like Katie Boulter might be able to get herself back into it when she took that break midway through the second set but the error count was just too high and the damage was ultimately already done.

It's all riding on the doubles.

  9. 'The unforced errors were just far too high'published at 17:31 British Summer Time 12 April

    Boulter 4-6 3-6 Lamens

Suzan Lamens was really driving through her forehand on the counter-punch, which was forcing Katie Boulter to go for something pretty brash.

She did just get a little bit tight trying to get over the line in the first set, which is understandable in this environment, but she has done the job by firing down the middle. It has been an excellent strategy.

Overall, the unforced errors were just far too high for Boulter.

Boulter had the chance to break right back, she was urging herself on, desperate to find just that little bit more.

When Lamens goes with quality down the middle of the court, it can cause some issues. A solid game from her but a few tense looking shots from Boulter.

    It's getting edgy.

Boulter has got to get control of these unforced errors again. She has double the errors of Lamens so far.

Lamens has such a great return, she can get it into an awkward position and Boulter cannot hit through her.
