I mean, that was simply vintage Sinner.

Shelton made four first serves to start the set-deciding game - but still found himself under pressure at 30-30.

Sinner's ability to soak them up, then turn defence into attack, was seriously impressive.

Jannik Sinner has got such strong legs, skier legs from days as a youngster growing up in the Dolomites in Italy. He had skis on those feet before he had a tennis racquet in his hand and he gets them round so effectively.

    *Cobolli 5-6 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic holds to love - what he would have given for that in the previous game.

Make no mistake, Flavio Cobolli is hanging in these rallies with Novak Djokovic.

It's just that final shot execution he is struggling with.

  9. Set point Djokovicpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 9 July

    *Cobolli 4-5 Djokovic

Flavio Cobolli plays one of the best volleys you'll ever see to intercept a Novak Djokovic passing shot at the net for a winner. Even the great man applauds on the other side of the court.

Followed immediately by a double fault and a Djokovic forehand that is absolutely mullered cross-court. 30-30.

Cobolli would give anything for a straightforward hold of serve here but Djokovic won't allow it. Another break point - also a set point - incoming...

  10. Set point Sinnerpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 9 July

    Sinner 7-6 (7-2) 5-4 Shelton*

Jannik Sinner is so rapid into the net. He improvises a forehand return to a rocket serve from Ben Shelton, crouching to get out of harm's way, and follows it in to play a deft winner.

The Italian pounces on a short shot to bury a forehand winner for 30-all and earns another break point as Shelton fires long.

    Sinner 7-6 (7-2) 5-4 Shelton*

Jannik Sinner's had a couple of ropey holds in the second set but this wasn't one of them. A comfortable hold to love for the Italian.

Ben Shelton has asked for the physio. It looks like he wants some new tape on his left ankle.

Wow, you don't see that too often.

Novak Djokovic had seized the initiative in the first set and was on the brink of taking it, but he sends a forehand wide and he is broken to love.

In truth, it was all about Flavio Cobolli in that game. A couple of brilliant winners set the platform for the immediate break-back.

Sometimes Jannik Sinner wants that forehand and he sort of moves round to hit the forehand but the spin is coming into his body. I think he should maybe wait to hit the two-handed backhand rather than the forehand there.

A return winner and a forehand winner equal 0-30 in Flavio Cobolli's favour in this all-or-nothing game, as far as the first set is concerned.

Flavio Cobolli saves with a fine serve-and-volley combo, but Novak Djokovic will get another chance to break as the Italian double-faults at a bad, bad time.

At the fourth time of asking, Djokovic finally does break by outlasting Cobolli in a long rally. Cobolli's forehand was only just wide. Great hitting from both players.

A loose start from Ben Shelton, throwing in a double fault and firing a soft forehand well long to slip to 15-30.

He finally gets a first serve in to level the game at 30-all.

However, Jannik Sinner ties him down behind the baseline to earn a break point.

  20. 'Shelton has to try and win the second set'published at 17:02 British Summer Time 9 July

    Sinner 7-6 (7-2) 4-3 Shelton*

    Greg Rusedski
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

There is some stress on the elbow but Jannik Sinner is striking the ball beautifully but there are a lot of grimaces.

If I'm Ben Shelton, I'm trying to find a way to win this second set. The longer this goes, the harder it gets for the world number one.
