Summary

  1. That's all for nowpublished at 21:44 2 July

Thanks for joining us for day two of Wimbledon.

It's been another long one full of drama and thankfully just the odd spell of rain - let's hope for much more of the former and even less of the latter tomorrow!

The day began with the news that former British number one and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray withdrawing from the singles due to a back issue. We will still see him in doubles action alongside brother Jamie.

The day ended with current British number Jack Draper stepping up on Centre Court to come through a testing five-setter against Elias Ymer.

Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune advanced but Russia's Andrey Rublev became the highest seed to fall - the sixth seed losing to Francisco Comesana.

In the women's draw, defending champion Marketa Vondrousova is out.

There was no concern for world number one Iga Swiatek, who beat Sofia Kenin, while 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and world number five Jessica Pegula are into round two.

We'll see you again in the morning!

British number one was made to work harder than she would have liked against Germany's Tatjana Maria but she got the job done in two sets.

That win means we have an all-British affair in round two with Boulter set to face Harriet Dart.

I believe that is day two of Wimbledon done and dusted.

American 11th seed Danielle Collins and Denmark’s Clara Tauson were the last players trying to finish before the court got too slippy and the light faded.

But just as I’m walking to court 10 to see the end of it, Collins herself has just strolled past!

Novak Djokovic only underwent surgery on a torn medial meniscus on 5 June, having aggrevated the problem during the French Open, and there were serious doubts over whether the Serbian would feature at Wimbledon.

But the 37-year-old was moving just fine when he raced to a straight set win against Vit Kopriva earlier.

We've put together some of the best shots from the seven-time Wimbledon champion for you to enjoy.

  5. Wimbledon cue - The Rocket and Djokovicpublished at 21:38 2 July

How's this for a Wimbledon bromance?

From 147 to SW19 - snooker great Ronnie O'Sullivan was at Wimbledon with daughter Lily to watch Novak Djokovic win earlier.

The seven-times Wimbledon champion was asked about the seven-times world snooker champion at his post-match news conference.

    Q. I noticed Ronnie O'Sullivan was in your box.

    Djokovic: Yes.

    Q. Are you a big snooker fan, and do you know the Rocket?

Djokovic: I'm his fan. I watch snooker just because of him. I watched when I was a kid. Honestly, I watched him play many years ago. My father loved watching snooker. I only watched Ronnie. Whenever he would not play, I would not watch. We just had a meet-up, an interaction for the first time. It was great.

He was one of the sport greats I used to watch when I was a kid. It was really nice to have him around. Hopefully we're able to play some snooker 'cause I'm really bad at snooker. I'm okay at pool or billiards, but snooker, I tried it twice, and it's really, really tough.

Yeah, it's amazing. He's a really, really nice person, nice guy, and very funny.

  6. Today's champagne moment...published at 21:36 2 July

It is fair to say the crowd for Harriet Dart's match against China's Zhuoxuan Bai were enjoying themselves.

It started at 11:00 BST but midway through the first set, the umpire had to ask for a champagne cork to be removed from the court before suggesting that the crowd might be best served waiting until the changeovers to open their bottles...

Russian Andrey Rublev became the highest seed to fall in the men's singles, losing 6-4 5-7 6-2 7-6 (7-5) to Argentine Francisco Comesana earlier on.

It's not just an all-British affair in round two of the men's singles draw with Jack Draper and Cam Norrie set to meet, but we've got two Brits set to meet in the women's draw.

British number one Katie Boulter meets Harriet Dart for a spot in round three.

Speaking about facing her compatriot, Boulter said:

"To play a British player on the grass is never going to be easy. It’s going to be a tough match, we know each other inside out, back to front. We know what to expect and it’s going to be about who can delver on the day.

"I’m going to fight, she’s going to fight, I think it is going to be fun for everyone to watch. I’m looking forward to having a another opportunity to play her at Wimbledon.

"After today its never taken for granted but I’m through to the second round and hopefully I can push on and carry the momentum from the first round and I’m looking forward to a great battle.

Did it feel different as a seed?

"I feel like my consistency has got a lot better, I can rely on my consistency a bit more whereas before I was having some great days and some tough days.

"It’s about continuing to work hard and see what I can get out of myself but it did feel different, It did feel like I belonged a little bit more out there."

Some great words from British number one Jack Draper, talking about Andy Murray:

“What an honour. "Thinking of the number ones that came before me – Tim, Andy, Cam (who I might play in the second round).

"Just a word on Andy. I wouldn’t be here without Andy. So funny, so genuine, one of a kind and what a competitor, what a champion and thank you very much."

  10. 'You wanted Andy, stuck with me instead' - Draperpublished at 21:28 2 July

British number one Jack Draper is through to the second round and was talking to Rishi Persad:

On the win: “I really enjoyed it. To play in front of you guys, I missed here last year, not being able to play. You probably wanted to see Andy out here but you were stuck with me instead.

How much did the crowd help you? “Massively. You guys were incredible, I love playing in front of loads of people. Thank you, it really helped me out here.

"There were some nervy moments, I really appreciate the support, it helped me a lot."

Jack Draper may have been all smiles in the end but it was far from a smooth ride for the British number one.

He was heavily fancied to get beyond Sweden's number one Elias Ymer and when it wasn't going to plan he took his frustration out on his racquet.

  12. Norrie on Draper tiepublished at 21:25 2 July

    Norrie 7-5 7-5 6-3 Diaz Acosta

On facing Jack Draper: "To be honest, I just want to just enjoy my win today, I'm not really thinking about that too much, it's nice to have my family here watching and everyone here watching and if I do play Jack, he's a really good friend of mine, we've practised together so many times and we always have high level practices and we always have positive energy and we're just trying to just compete against each other in a really good way.

"I always want him to do well, he's always texting me and my coach when we do well and vice versa so I'm looking forward to it. I'd love to play him out here at Wimbledon, it will be a special one."

Just how far can Jack Draper go at Wimbledon?

The 22-year-old has never previously gone beyond the second round - reaching that stage last year - but it's worth noting this is only his third appearance in the main draw.

Draper came into the tournament after winning the Stuttgart Open in June and fresh from a win over defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz at Queen's a couple of weeks ago.

His victory sets up an all-British tie, with Cam Norrie waiting in round two.

  14. 'I was thinking about getting finished' - Norrie on winpublished at 21:18 2 July

    Norrie 7-5 7-5 6-3 Diaz Acosta

Cameron Norrie on exuberant fans and match: "It was definitely not easy but I think those two guys over there enjoyed themselves more than I did at the end but it wasn't easy, obviously he called an injury time out and I was thinking a little bit about getting finished but yeah, I was feeling better and better as the match went on and it's always nervous coming out first round of Wimbledon but it's nice to win in straight sets."

On whether he was nervous: "Yeah, I think a little bit at the beginning of the match, a bit of the movement and a bit slow to some returns that I wouldn't usually miss, but I think that's normal and I dealt with it great and managed to hold my serve in the first set and take a couple of chances when I [needed] to but I was really really happy with my level in the third set, I was moving well, hitting my spots on the serve and really staying tough in the rallies. It's not easy out there so I really enjoyed it and thank you to everyone for staying out this late."

On favourite songs sung to him during game: "Yeah, there's a couple, you can ask those two guys!"

It has been suspenseful to this point but Jack Draper is charging through this game and wins it to love.

    Never in doubt, right?

Britain's number one is through to the second round of Wimbledon.

    And breathe.

If you haven’t got a ticket for Centre Court for this nail-biter, then the next best place is Henman Hill.

Perhaps it should be called ‘Murray Mount’ today, given the circumstances.

It’s packed with fans grabbing a bite to eat and cheering on Jack Draper.

I’ve just heard a little boy behind me go “ooh, the suspense”. He’s not wrong.

Perfect start for Jack Draper as he nestles the ball neatly in the corner. 15-0.

Draper looks a little tense and tight as he hooks the ball wide. 30-30.

Elias Ymer is back up to his old tricks and aces for 40-30. Game Ymer as Draper puts his drop shot into the net.

Dealing with nerves and dealing with pressure is the difference between guys that cant get over the hump.

A nice easy game for Draper – keeping the pressure on.
