Had to abandon my mission of watching Billy Harris on court 15 as there wasn’t a seat going spare.

Made the quick dash over to court 18 where Harriet Dart is currently playing. Yet again, it’s another big crowd but fingers crossed I’ll get to see some action.

  2. Postpublished at 11:26 2 July

    Dart 3-2 Zhuoxuan*

Britain's Harriet Dart comes into Wimbledon in good form and just about back in the world's top 100. She made the quarter-finals at Eastbourne last week, beating Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic and American Sofia Kenin, both ranked inside the top 50 in the world.

Dart is involved in the opening match of the day on court 18 and it should be a close one as she is up against China's Bai Zhuoxuan, who is 94th in the world. We're still on serve after the opening five games.

  3. Choinski breaks backpublished at 11:22 2 July

    Darderi 2-1 Choinski

It's been a lively start on Court 17 with Britain's Jan Choinski losing his first service game to Italian Luciano Darderi.

The 28-year-old hits back immediately with a break of his own as Darderi goes long. Back on serve in the first set.

Anon: A sensible move from Andy to give him every chance to play with a doubles legend and his brother. A fitting send-off to an incredible career. He's called Sir Andy for a reason. His career spans so many incredible matches. He's fought through injury, mental blocks, and close calls and still wants to give his all. He's got a metal hip. Andy, you've won the nation's heart, and your legacy will live on for many years. We'll miss you in the singles but the crowds can't wait for the doubles. Petition for a statue at Wimbledon?

  5. 'Murray will be missed big time'published at 11:17 2 July

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

It's something I wasn't hoping to hear, I saw Andy Murray practising out here a few days ago and he was moving OK. I thought there was a chance and I know he would want to do it as much as he could.

He would have loved to give the British fans another look at him. For him to play on here on Centre Court one more time would have been great. Hopefully, that will happen [playing doubles with his brother Jamie].

For Andy Murray, he's not going to go out on to the court unless he thinks he can win the match. He would have tried everything possible.

The courage that Murray had to win, you can't teach that. When someone has got the inner fire like he has, the will to win that he had, never gave it less than 100%.

He grew with the pressure that was on him by the British public and he knew what he had to do, he knew how to achieve it and he was single-minded with it. We're going to miss him big time.

The greatest athlete in my opinion in British sport ever. It's going to be very sad not to see him out here, I can't believe it to be honest.

  8. 'The Murray brothers have never played together at the Championships'published at 11:10 2 July

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Andy Murray has been giving himself as long as possible to be ready to play in what will be an emotional goodbye at the scene of some of his greatest triumphs, having also won Olympic gold on Centre Court at London 2012.

The Scot's plans have been disrupted by the back issue which flared up earlier this summer and forced him to retire from his match at Queen's against Australia's Jordan Thompson on 19 June after only five games.

But he has fought to be fit because he wants a bit of "closure" at the All England Club before stopping playing professionally.

On Sunday, Murray said the area where he had the operation was not sore, but added he still did not have 100% feeling in his leg.

He trained with former British number one Kyle Edmund for more than an hour on Monday, leading 6-3 2-0 in a practice match before they stopped.

Afterwards, Murray said he would make a decision later that evening and announced on Tuesday morning - several hours before he was due to face Machac - that he would focus on the doubles.

The Murray brothers have never played together at the Championships.

Andy and 38-year-old Jamie represented Great Britain in doubles at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the All England Club, when they lost in the first round.

  17. 'As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed'published at 10:41 2 July

Andy Murray has decided not to play in the Wimbledon singles, instead making his farewell to the All England Club in the doubles alongside older brother Jamie.

Murray, who is planning to retire later this year, had surgery 10 days ago on a back issue.

The 37-year-old, who won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, was due to play Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic on Centre Court on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year," Murray's team said in a statement.

"As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time."

Former world number one Murray had a cyst close to his spinal cord removed on Saturday because it was causing nerve pain in his right leg.

The Scot was giving himself as long as possible to be ready to play in what will be his Wimbledon farewell.
