Despite the presence of a French player, it is far from a full house on Court Simonne Mathieu.

Boulter has been battling herself more than Monnet or the crowd.

The British number one is receiving plenty of vocal encouragement from her fitness trainer Matt Little, who will remember was part of Andy Murray’s team.

He’s out-shouting everyone at the moment - you can hear him loud and clear from the opposite end of the court.

An air shot. Amateur tennis players following you can all feel a little bit better about your own game as Carole Monnet goes for a smash, misjudges the wind, and completely misses the ball.

See. Even the pros do it.

Anyway, it gives Boulter a timely advantage on deuce and she wins the next point to hold.

I think Katie Boulter plays with quite a solid base when she plays on hard court. On clay court, it looks like she just feels less secure and she isn't quite as balanced.

She can't really change direction as well as on hard court - and movement has always been Katie Boulter's weakness, hasn't it.

Katie Boulter breaks at the first attempt, just as she did at the start of the second set.

It comes from another Carole Monnet error. Now, can the Brit back it up with a hold?

This is just extraordinary. There was no comparison before between the two players and I would have almost put my house on Carole Monnet not being able to get that first set under her belt.

But it is amazing what a Parisian crowd can do - they can lift a player, they can get on top of the other player and the whole thing can shift.

The level drop from Katie Boulter was quite extraordinary. It is incredible what doubt does to a player when it creeps in as well.

Well I don't know what to think anymore. Katie Boulter looked dominant in the first part of that first set. She was serving for it at one point, but Carole Monnet has produced another level out of nowhere.
