Clutch stuff from Katie Boulter. She gets a mini-break on Carole Monnet's serve and then hits a crisp forehand winner - her go-to shot.

Next point and Boulter hits a backhand down the line which gets a very late call of out by the line judge. The umpire is out of his chair and runs over to check. It's in he says, and Boulter gets the point!

This match has entered into very choppy waters, and who would have ever seen this coming?

The gulf of difference between the two players at the start of this match was very noticeable, but you have to admire the way Monnet has gone about her business here. She has always kept a smile on her face.

I think Monnet has unshackled herself in this match. She is starting to play with freedom, she is being more creative and she is starting to play intelligent tactical tennis. It has rattled Katie Boulter.

    Monnet 6-5 Boulter*

Carole Monnet has all the momentum - and the crowd behind her.

She wins a fierce rally at the net which pumps up the volume another notch.

Boulter then goes long, helping Monnet hold to love to take the lead for the first time in this match. It'll mean Boulter will have to serve to stay in the set.

The way that Carole Monnet hits the ball is a bit awkward, isn't it?

Sometimes she strikes it flatter and occasionally she just flicks her wrist a bit so there's a loopy height on the ball.

The way she hits is quite deceptive because you don't know if she is going to spin it, if it's going to land deep or if it's going to miss.

  17. 'Something has flicked a switch on Boulter's clay court ability'published at 16:19 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Monnet 3-5 Boulter

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

I just feel like Katie Boulter will have too much weight on the ball for Carole Monnet.

She has won all of those matches on clay in the build-up to this so it's almost like something has flicked a switch on her clay-court ability these days.

It was quite smart to go and play at that event in Paris to get some match wins under her belt, it has completely changed how she looks on the court in comparison to Madrid and Rome.

    *Monnet 3-5 Boulter

Katie Boulter's forehand is looking fabulous right now. She winds up another winner into the corner, and then backs it up by staying in a rally and forcing Monnet into an error.

Boulter is dominating this first set, and holds to 15 to continue her march.

  19. Monnet holds to stop slumppublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 26 May

    Monnet 3-4 Boulter*

Defence of the highest quality keeps Carole Monnet in back-to-back rallies, and possibly this first set too.

She holds to 15 in a game which includes the French qualifier hitting just her second winner of the match, a delicious passing forehand down the line.

  20. Boulter holdspublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 26 May

    *Monnet 2-4 Boulter

Ah, the two sides of Carole Monnet. She plays a brilliant return of serve which clips the baseline and Boulter can only return it up, high into the air.

But then Monnet, sprinting forward, places her overhead smash wide. Criminal!

A missed opportunity at love-all, and Boulter ends up holding to love.
