Back-to-back aces to seal the second set for Daniil Medvedev.

He needed to use a challenge to get the second of them but it was shown to be clipping the line so the fifth seed is now just a set away from the second round.

Aleksandar Kovacevic had his moments in that set but he requires something special to come back from here.

An awesome effort from 29th seed Frances Tiafoe to reach round two, having lost the first two sets against Matteo Arnaldi of Italy.

The American clenches his fist while sitting on his chair - a big, big win.

  14. 'Stars have to align for Lajal'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Alcaraz 5-5 Lajal

    Nick Kyrgios
Australian tennis player on BBC Two

Quite nimble for a big fella.

Mark Lajal is getting the crowd involved. The stars have to align today.

His ability to steal time away from his opponent is very, very good.

  15. Fery breakspublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 1 July

    Altmaier 4-5 Fery*

    Arthur Fery hits straight back.

    *Alcaraz 5-5 Lajal

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

You could just feel the tension building in that monster rally. First it was Carlos Alcaraz on top, then Mark Lajal turned defence into attack.

The defending champion runs from one side of the court to the other until a lucky clip of the net works in Lajal's favour and Alcaraz nets.

    The crowd loved that.

  17. 'Lajal toe-to-toe with Alcaraz'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Alcaraz 5-5 Lajal

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Lajal is just playing that well. For me the question is can he sustain this for the course of five sets because he’s pretty toe-to-toe with Alcaraz.

    *Alcaraz 5-5 Lajal

An excellent rally, the best of the match so far, with both men asking searching questions of the other. Lajal would have been set point down if he had lost that point, but Alcaraz eventually fires a forehand into the top of the net, before Lajal roars out in delight when he does hold his serve shortly afterwards.

Alcaraz was two points away from the set, but now we're back at 5-5.

  19. 'Kovacevic will start to feel tension'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Kovacevic 3-6 3-5 Medvedev

    Todd Woodbridge
Former Wimbledon doubles champion on BBC Two

A lower-ranked player or somebody like Aleksandar Kovacevic who is out on this stadium for the very first time, they start to feel tension and that makes it harder to move as quickly. All of those things happen at the back end of a set.

That's where we often start to see someone like Daniil Medvedev flourish and the scoreline falls in his favour.

  20. Altmaier breakspublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Altmaier 4-4 Fery

Daniel Altmaier is back to his feet and gets a warm round of applause from those watching on Court 16.

Arthur Fery tries to run him across the court but Altmaier is moving freely enough as play resumes.

Altmaier fires a forehand down the line to break. Remarkable considering he was in agony just moments ago.
