    Altmaier 4-6 5-4 Fery*

And there is that vital break from Daniel Altmaier.

The German sends a thunderous backhand deep to the baseline and it just about sneaks in the corner.

Altmaier lets out a huge scream.

He builds on that break by holding to love to move in front for the first time in this second set.

Two sets and a break down, it’s looking extremely bleak for British wildcard Charlie Broom right now.

Stan Wawrinka is hitting some brilliant ground strokes and his backhand is purring. This one might be over soon and the crowd on court two can sense it.

  10. Fery closing in on second setpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 1 July

    Altmaier 4-6 3-4 Fery*

No mistakes from Arthur Fery back on serve as he grinds through the game to move 4-2 clear.

Daniel Altmaier is showing no signs of struggle after that earlier medical time-out and races to hold to 15 to close the gap once more.

Altmaier can't afford any further slip ups and is still searching for a vital break.

    *Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 1-2 Lajal

Just like in the first set, Mark Lajal breaks Carlos Alcaraz's serve but then loses his next service game to love.

Alcaraz is not taking it easy. The top players have gears they can move through as and when the going gets tough in the later rounds, but he’s being pushed here.

The level of tennis that Lajal has produced so far has been so impressive.

He has got the early break in the second and now he has got to try and capitalise.

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Lajal is continuing to go for his shots and this has been a very good standard match for a qualifier.

You’d think he’d come out nervous, and push the ball around. We’ll see if he falls away but at the moment he is really up there with Alcaraz.

    Kovacevic 3-6 4-6 1-4 Medvedev*

Aleksandar Kovacevic has not been great with his challenges in this match so, when he finally gets one right to overturn an ace down the middle from Daniil Medvedev, he punches the air.

His joy is short-lived as Medvedev immediately produces another ace out wide on his way to a comfortable hold.

Kovacevic does at least avoid a bagel in the third set as he holds to 15.

    Wawrinka 6-3 7-5 2-0 Broom*

Wawrinka has now won four of his seven break point opportunities in this match and it's proving the difference.

He's just won the big points, when it's mattered. A cross court forehand did it for him this time.

He quickly follows it up and holds his service game.

You can see the frustration creeping in for Carlos Alcaraz.

He's not happy with his game at the moment and that's clear when he mutters under his breath after lofting a return high into the sky.

Mark Lajal isn't making this easy.

  20. Altmaier & Fery holdpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 1 July

    Altmaier 4-6 2-3 Fery*

Daniel Altmaier seems to have settled down after he was broken by Arthur Fery in the opening game of the second set.

The German holds to 15 to keep some pressure on Fery.

Ideally, Altmaier needs a break of his own soon, though, otherwise Fery is on track to move two sets clear
