  1. 'Lajal deserves a lot of credit'published at 14:39 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 0-1 Lajal

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC One

Mark Lajal deserves a lot of credit coming out on this court against the defending champion. He has hardly played grass-court tennis in his career.

He put up a really strong defence but there were just a couple of important points in that tie-break where you saw Carlos Alcaraz up his game and find those spots on the first serve with the big forehand to give him that first set.

  2. Lajal saves break point to holdpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 0-1 Lajal

That's a good hold for Mark Lajal, who was faced with being a set and a break down, but he recovers with a strong spirit shown.

  3. Medvedev breaks againpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 1 July

    Kovacevic 3-6 4-6 0-3 Medvedev*

Down 0-40 after a double fault, Aleksandar Kovacevic produces a wonderful backhand for a cross-court winner, but goes wide a couple of points later and this one could be over in a hurry.

Daniil Medvedev is two sets up, two breaks up and, surely, headed to the second round.

  4. Postpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 1 July

    Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 0-0 Lajal*

A wonderful down the line winner from Carlos Alcaraz drops in the corner to earn him a break point. This is a big test for Lajal, immediately after losing the first set tie-break.

Heartbreak for Broom as five games go the Swiss' way to clinch the set.

A backhand winner down the line does it in the end for Wawrinka.

British wildcard Broom served for this second set at 5-3 up.

  6. Altmaier holdspublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 1 July

    Altmaier 4-6 1-2 Fery*

Arthur Fery is oozing with confidence after taking that first set.

The Brit, who looks very cool with his cap on backwards, breaks Daniel Altmaier in the first game of the second set and then holds to love in the second game.

Altmaier hits back, halting Fery's four-game winning streak, to hold in the third.

    *Wawrinka 6-3 6-5 Broom

    Charlotte Coates
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

I have to say, Stan Wawrinka’s backhand is incredible in person.

  9. Medvedev breakspublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Kovacevic 3-6 4-6 0-2 Medvedev

Superb from Daniil Medvedev to break at the first time of asking in this third set.

Aleksandar Kovacevic had battled to stave off two break points and thought he had done so a third time with an ace. But Medvedev challenged and the serve down the middle was shown to have missed the line by a whisker.

Medvedev made no mistake on the next point, securing the break with a lovely winner down the line and then holds with ease.

  10. 'Nothing to lose'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 1 July

    Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 0-0 Lajal*

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds

Lajal’s percentages of everything have just been really high. I just love his mental approach to this. Of course he’s got nothing to lose.

  11. 'Show depth on the men's tour'published at 14:32 British Summer Time 1 July

    Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 0-0 Lajal*

    Pat Cash

Just shows how much depth there is on the men’s tour if Lajal can come out here and play like this.

  12. Broom troubling Wawrinkapublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Wawrinka 6-3 6-5 Broom

    Charlotte Coates
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Finally made it through the crowds and got myself on to court two where Charlie Broom is making Stan Wawrinka’s life difficult in the second set.

More and more people were queuing to take a seat on the court as the British wildcard tries to fight back.

Numerous cries of “come on Charlie” can be heard all around the court.

  13. Wawrinka serving for second setpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Wawrinka 6-3 6-5 Broom

It's agony for Charles Broom as a stoic Stan Wawrinka clinches a fourth game in a row.

Despite hitting two in the net to take us to deuce, the three-time Grand Slam champion shows he's made of steely stuff.

The Swiss is now serving for the second set.

  14. Game and first set - Alcarazpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 1 July

    Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) Lajal

A tame end to the set as a double fault from Lajal gives the set to Carlos Alcaraz. But all credit to the Estonian, who really made the reigning champion work hard.

How will Lajal respond to falling behind though?

Carlos Alcaraz looks like a super hero as he dives and flings his racquet to try and get a return away.

It doesn't work out but the crowd thank the Spaniard for his entertaining efforts with gasps and whistles.

    *Kovacevic 3-6 4-6 0-0 Medvedev

    Todd Woodbridge
Former Wimbledon doubles champion on BBC TV

    There's a different intensity when playing a top-10 player.

The pace of the balls that have been coming at Aleksandar Kovacevic have been a bit difficult.

  20. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 1 July

Both men are close to the net, Alcaraz saves the first passing effort, but not the second, diving unsuccessfully, 3-3.
