Todoni's failure to take her break-point chances in game number four proves costly as she then gets broken again in game five and Gauff now her this set in her hands.

That forehand is absolutely lethal from Anca Todoni. Blink and you'd miss it.

It's causing real problems for Coco Gauff.

  4. Medvedev kicks things off on Centre Courtpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 3 July

Fifth seed Daniil Medvedev booked his place in the second round with a straight-set win over American Aleksandar Kovacevic on Monday.

A semi-finalist last year, Medvedev appears to have moved past his early-career struggles on grass and was comfortable in his first-round win.

It is coming up to three years since the Russian won his only Grand Slam title to date at US Open and after defeat in the Australian Open at the start of the year, he'll believe he can go one better at SW19 as he goes in search of a second major triumph.

France's Alexandre Muller saw off fellow countryman Hugo Gaston in round one, coming out on top in two tie-breaks to win 6-4 7-6 7-6.

He lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz at this stage last year and is aiming to reach the third round of a Slam for the first time.

  5. Gauff saves break points to holdpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 3 July

    *Todoni 1-3 Gauff

Anca Todoni, armed with a fierce forehand, had a couple of chances for a break of serve, but some great defence under pressure from Coco Gauff fends off both.

Gauff with a very good hold and this is going to be a tougher test for the American than we had thought.

Coco Gauff won't know too much of Anca Todoni, especially on the professional circuit.

Because Coco has been on the professional circuit for so long, I highly doubt they met as juniors.

There is that feel of it being an unknown opponent as well.

I think Coco also probably feels that she wants to stamp her authority and make Todoni feel that she is the big hitter and the one to be afraid of.

Especially against an opponent who hits big like Todoni, you don't want her to start finding her range.

Coco Gauff almost does the splits trying to reach that thumping Anca Todoni forehand.

The American second seed falls to the floor, but it doesn't look like there's any damage done as she quickly gets back on her feet and resumes her serving position.

The rain lasted for a strong 60 seconds but the covers are now off once again and play should hopefully resume shortly.

Fingers crossed we get a decent bit of action now.

After saving two break points in her last game, Anca Todoni has an opportunity to get a break herself as she earns her first break point of the match.

She can't take the first one, netting with a backhand, but now has another chance. Advantage Todoni. It may be a bit slippery out there as Gauff has already stumbled twice, but is OK to carry on.

Since that picture was taken, the scene has improved significantly on court three and the many other outside courts.

The covers are off, the net is up and - weather-permitting - we should only be a few minutes away from play restarting.

    The worst sight in tennis.

Hopefully, play gets under way again shortly.

This is going to be the biggest stage that Anca Todoni has played on so to come through that game will feel good.

She doesn't want to get swept off the court, she'll want to get on the board.

There are always those nerves in a new scenario about how well you will do.

Uh oh. The screen of my mobile is getting splattered by rain.

Wimbledon groundstaff scatter sharply at the practice courts as they get into position to pull over the covers.

But players down here, which include Raducanu, the Murray brothers, Djokovic and Sinner, aren’t perturbed.

Practice continues and the rain eases off. For now.

Coco Gauff covers her eyes as she trundles back to her chair.

The second seed can't quite believe she's watched that forehand go long to give Anca Todoni the hold.

  15. Todoni saves two break points to holdpublished at 13:23 British Summer Time 3 July

    Todoni 1-2 Gauff*

That will make Anca Todoni, ranked 142nd in the world, feel much better. She saves two break points, with Gauff then missing what looked to be a straight-forward forehand at the net, but instead goes long.

The American still holds a break of serve, but the Romanian teenager is on the board.

The rain has indeed stopped and, as quickly as they went on, the covers are now coming off.

Hopefully that means a fairly swift resumption in play on the outside courts.

Just as play got under way, the rain starts to fall yet again. Annoyingly, as I type this, the rain seems to have stopped falling already.

    *Todoni 0-2 Gauff

    Johanna Konta
Former British number one on BBC TV

It will be interesting to see how well Anca Todoni deals with looking to find some solidness in her game.

It does seem that she looks to build her points around her big shots but if she doesn't get the chance to hit them, what does she have to fall back on?

She might feel like that she has to play bigger because there is a lot of interest coming from the Coco Gauff serve as there would be, it can make you feel like you have to over play.

  19. Postpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 3 July

    *Todoni 0-2 Gauff

Anca Todoni is only 19 years old and had never played in the main stages of a Grand Slam before qualifying this year and she gained a 7-5 6-1 win over Serbia's Olga Danilovic in round one.

But this is proving a much more difficult task. Todoni moves forward and swipes a big backhand but it's long and Gauff has a chance for a double break, although she can't take it as she nets. Deuce.

A clenched fist from Coco Gauff, who gets a huge cheer for entertaining us with that lovely lob.

    Pinpoint accuracy that was.
