  1. Play suspended on outside courtspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 3 July

    Kartal 1-1 Burel*

    Here comes the rain again.

With Sonay Kartal up 40-0 on serve, the umpire declares that play has been suspended and the covers are hastily brought on.

It doesn't look too heavy but it is enough to stop play for a while at least on the outside courts.

Now the rain has gone, the practice courts at Aorangi Park are buzzing.

Emma Raducanu, who plays third on Court One in several hours or so, is warming up with fellow Briton Lily Miyazaki.

Miyazaki also faces a longish wait until she plays. A second round match against 14th seed Daria Kasatkina is scheduled fourth on Court Three.

  4. 'Challenge to get everything done today'published at 13:12 British Summer Time 3 July

    Russell Fuller
Tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It feels like an autumnal day. It’s not particularly nice for tennis. We’ve had the worst of the rain and it wasn't very heavy.

The courts are being uncovered after a delay of just over two hours.

Even if there is no further rain that’s going to cause a minor headache for schedulers because some of the first round matches (including Dan Evans’ match) weren’t finished yesterday and it will be a challenge to get everything done today.

That's not a bad way to start, is it? A brutal ace from Anca Todini.

But it's a downhill slope from there, topped off by a double fault.

Coco Gauff, who is cheered on with shouts of "come on Coco", has the early advantage.

Coco Gauff has gone through so much emotional and personal growth while continuing to make her way up the rankings and continuing to be successful.

It bodes well not just for a successful career but success over a long period of time which is where we see some of the great numbers coming in.

She could find herself being among the greats.

The 22-year-old makes it 11 games in a row as she holds to 15 to start this one.

A great start for the second seed Coco Gauff as Anca Todini sends in a double fault at a terrible time, break point down and the American is off to a flyer.

Janet: Andy Murray has long been an advocate of women's tennis and women's sport in general. Great to see him partnering with a woman whose career is still early. Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray will be great to watch. Fantastic news.

Debbie: So happy for Andy Murray to be able to have joy out of Wimbledon this year. His pair up with Emma Raducanu is the one we've waited for and it will be exciting to see him with Jamie Murray for the first time. After disappointment, there's some joy and hopefully wins.

Anon: Madacanu would get my vote to be Andy and Emma’s team name.

  18. 'It's all about protecting the grass courts' - Robsonpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 3 July

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

You may or may not have noticed that there aren't currently any matches taking place on Court One.

Former British number one Laura Robson has the answer.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds, Robson said: "It is all about protecting the grass courts. You don’t want to go too heavy on your stadium courts. The ground staff probably think they've got off lightly with the day’s play on court one, maybe work on it for a couple of hours this evening, and it is used right throughout the tournament.

"Whereas if you can move matches onto court two and three, they’re not used as much in the second week of the tournament.

"Because it is a live surface, you are constantly thinking about protecting the baselines especially as much as possible."
