Gasps around Centre Court as the perfect Alexander Zverev serve falters in game nine of set three, with a double break giving Taylor Fritz his first break of the day.

Zverev was two games away from the quarter-finals, but there may be some more drama yet to come.

Holger Rune v Novak Djokovic is next up on Centre, but that one may have to wait.

A chance for Yulia Putintseva at 15-30 on Jelena Ostapenko's serve but the Kazakhstani skews a backhand return wide, before repeatedly bashing her racquet over her head in frustration.

    Ouch.

Ostapenko then holds while saving a break point following a lengthy back-and-forth at deuce.

You know In Zverev’s match there will always be five to ten minutes where he will have little bit more tension in his arm, when the forehand is going to miss, the serve is going to miss.

Ah the serve doesn't work out this time for Alexander Zverev.

A double fault hands the game and a break to Taylor Fritz.

  5. Break points for Fritzpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 8 July

    *Fritz 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 4-4 Zverev

Alexander Zverev finds himself trailing 30-0 on serve and, yep, once again finds a trusty ace to get back into the game. Just 135mph this time.

Oh. Zverev gets to the net in good time but fails to get under the ball and it's scooped into the net.

Two attempts at break point for Taylor Fritz.

Drum roll please.... tomorrow's order of play for the singles is out.

Jannik Sinner, the men's top seed, opens Centre Court against fifth seed Daniil Medvedev at 13:30 BST.

The iconic show-court is the place to be for Italian fans.

After Sinner's match, his compatriot Jasmine Paolini takes centre stage against American Emma Navarro.

Over on Court One, New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun - who beat Emma Raducanu yesterday - meets Croatia's Donna Vekic at 13:00 BST.

Reigning men's champion Carlos Alcaraz follows against American 12th seed Tommy Paul, who warmed up for Wimbledon by winning Queen's.

It has not been a match for everybody's liking, with serving dominating and few games going to the drama of break points.

A 'tweener' from the baseline from Alexander Zverev gets the crowd involved on Centre Court, only for it to go long and him to lose the point.

    Back to steady, not spectacular.

  8. Zverev holdspublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 8 July

    *Fritz 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 3-4 Zverev

Just as Taylor Fritz gets a sniff at break point with a 30-15 lead, Alexander Zverev digs out a 132mph serve to get back level.

And the German holds with relative ease.

The second set had to be decided by a tie-break and, with neither looking likely to drop a service game, we could be heading for another.

    Putintseva 2-6 2-2 *Ostapenko

    Joe Rindl

The Wimbledon crowd love an underdog. They are getting right behind Yulia Putintseva who hasn't quite been able to hit top form so far today.

That's not to say Jelena Ostapenko isn't getting any love. There's a family a few rows in front of me who are making a wall of noise trying to keep the Latvian pumped up at the end of every game.

A really nice atmosphere is bubbling under the roof on Court One and it's only getting louder.

    Putintseva 2-6 2-2 *Ostapenko

Yulia Putintseva is being outplayed during the longer rallies due to the accuracy and power of Jelena Ostapenko's strokeplay.

Just as I type this, the Latvian arrows another backhand winner past Putintseva, drawing appreciative gasps from the court one crowd.

The unseeded Kazakhstani fights back well though to secure an important hold.

  11. 'Zverev still tentative coming forward'published at 17:08 British Summer Time 8 July

    Fritz 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 3-3 Zverev*

    Greg Rusedski
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Fritz should still use the drop shot. In the mind of Zverev he had that slip against Cam Norrie.

He’s still very tentative coming forward but when the shot is on and he’s inside the baseline, Fritz should definitely play it.

  12. 'So demoralising for Fritz'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 8 July

    Fritz 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 3-3 Zverev*

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

It’s so demoralising for Fritz when you’re going back and forth [on the Zverev serve] and not even touching the ball hardly but you have to keep in it because you may get one shot, in the tie-breaker or somewhere, and you’ve got to be ready for it.

  13. Zverev holds to lovepublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 8 July

Fine response from Taylor Fritz as he responds with a hold to love of his own.

    Putintseva 2-6 1-1 *Ostapenko

    Joe Rindl
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Jelena Ostapenko will feel like that first set lasted a little bit longer than it needed to - and that's saying something as she wrapped it up inside 24 minutes.

The crowd on Court One are right behind her opponent Yulia Putintseva, cheering her every point. She struggled to get going initially, but now, almost out of nowhere, she's wrestled back the momentum.

Re Roy at 16:37. What’s this weird fascination with ‘personalities’ in sport? I don’t watch tennis for people getting annoyed at the crowd, umpire, other players etc. I watch for great tennis! And players like Alcaraz and Sinner are producing some outstanding tennis

    Putintseva 2-6 1-1 Ostapenko*

Despite Jelena Ostapenko's dominance, Yulia Putintseva has shown flashes of her ability and it's on show at the start of this second set.

The Kazakhstani's deep returns cause Ostapenko to go long on multiple occasions, providing her with the break.

But the Latvian immediately breaks back, getting the better of two six-shot rallies, which are the longest of the match so far.

Putintseva shows her frustration after a double fault by angrily gesturing towards her team.

Glasspool also lost in straight sets in the men's doubles earlier. A tough day for Lloyd...
